Thought I'd listen to something special tonight as I drink some wine and mourn the loss of the old DSC and welcome the new! So I'm listening to Something Special! And it's so good.

Something Special IS great David! Remember reading that Dusty's least favourite song on it was "Needle In a Haystack" which is one of my favourites - oh well we can't all agree on everything...

This latest Linda Ronstadt (with Ann Savoy) album is really great! If you like Linda, you should check this one out- I think you'll love it.

'You Set My Dreams To Music' CD1 Track 20 Something Special. Press the repeat button on your player. The opening words... 'Oh, I'm loving what I see....' Makes bits you forgot you had, tingle!!
Who said that?? |

Sara Re Blue Jay Way... Don't know your age 'young lady' and wouldn't presume to ask!! Just be aware that when this song was written and put onto vinyl, the pop world (and no doubt a large part of the 'real' one as well) was as high as a kite. The Beatles were no exception to this phenomenon!

"Wrapped in Grey" by XTC, one of my favorite soungs
Some folks see the world as a stone Concrete daubed in dull monotone Your heart is the big box of paints And others, the canvas we're dealt Your heart is the big box of paints How coloured the flowers all smelled As they huddled there, in petalled prayer They told me this, as I knelt there Awaken you dreamers Adrift in your beds Balloons and streamers Decorate the inside of your heads Please let some out Do it today But don't let the loveless ones sell you A world wrapped in grey Some folks pull this life like a weight Drab and dragging dreams made of slate Your heart is the big box of paints And others, the canvas we're dealt Your heart is the big box of paints Just think how the old masters felt, they call... Awaken you dreamers Asleep at your desks Parrots and lemurs Populate your unconscious grotesques Please let some out Do it today Don't let the loveless ones sell you A world wrapped in grey And in the very least you can Stand up naked and Grin
David,

Currently listening to a little Dusty. Reputation, as it was handy to the bedroom CD player (which is where I have my computer). Disco Sunday yet again!

Well, my dear you are a 'young lady' - as you might have spotted on one of my previous posts (coincidentally in response to one of yours!)...reverse the digits of your age and add 1.....that's me!! Hence the reason why I am so knowledgable about the 60's? I can even sing 'Altogether now 1,2,3, keep your eyes on your driving keep your hands on the wheel, keep your blah blah (can't quite remember this bit) on the road ahead...we're having fun, sitting in the back seat, kissing and a-cuddling with Fred'. No, I'm not going mad..this is entirely relevant to this 'Dusty Springfield Network' as it was one of the songs she sang as part of the Lana Sisters!

XTC!.....they're a Group I'd practically forgotten about, were they succesfull in the States? The only single I have by XTC is the unusual 'Making plans for Nigel'.
"We're only making plans for Nigel, we only want what's best for him, he has his future in British steel, steel, steel, yeah, yeah, we're only making plans for Nigel"
Well if poor Nigel did have his future career in British Steel he would have been bloody-well made redundant not long after!!

Really sad thought re Karen Carpenter, 'cos we had tickets to see them in London, must have been sometime in 1975 but the shows were cancelled - I think it was the first time that we in Britain became aware of Karen's health issues.
Lovely, haunting voice..

Good song, Mark. Nah, they weren't very commercially successful here, either. But very well loved by their fans all over the world. They did Swindon proud. And speaking of Swindon, currently listening to one of my faves, The Moody Blues...
