Posted - 10/05/2008 : 08:35:56 I watched a documentary on BBC4 last night on Peggy, she was great but I noticed she wore wigs & hair pieces a lot, infact some of her hairstyles were quite similar to Dusty's. |

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 19:50:09 I just watched the Peggy Lee DVD again. She made it all look so effortless, didn't she? She could sing them AND she could write them.
kd lang put it very well ~ "She was the whole thermometer. She was the coolest and she was the hottest."
One telling scene: In a recording studio, Peggy tells the musical director, "If the way I want to do it is so different from the way it is written, then WE have a problem!" The musicians were dismissed right then and there. (Wouldn't Dusty have appreciated THAT?!)

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 18:48:30 Actually Brian the album is called Beauty & The Beat.
As for Leggy Pee, I used to help out in a friends record shop and just when Julio Iglesias was making a name for himself a woman came in and asked for that new record by Julian Inglis !!!!!! |

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 18:24:41 When I worked in a record shop we had a lady who would always ask for LEGGY PEE! ...she was a strange woman - 50 ish, with a blond boufant and flowers in her hair. We all thought she was slightly 'doolally' For anyone considering buying a Peggy Lee cd - you can't go wrong with 'Beauty & the beat' with George Shearing --absolutely fabulous.

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 14:04:15 I never realised until I watched the documentary on Friday that Peggy was also a songwriter.
She had a "look" too - didn't she? |

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 12:59:02 ..AND she was way ahead of her time. I have a DVD of a documentary about her and it left me even more impressed. Miss Peggy Lee was definitely calling the shots regarding her music, even in the recording studio.
I remember hearing and seeing her on TV when I was very young. She stuck in my mind as being different from all the other 'girl singers' of her time - like Dusty would a few years later.

Posted - 10/05/2008 : 23:52:53 I love Peggy Lee! She was such a natural talented singer. I only ended up checking her out because I read Dusty liked her, I hardly knew anything about her before then. Now I have loads of her albums

Posted - 10/05/2008 : 20:44:29 You are SO fortunate to have seen that show.
The only time I booked to see Dusty at the Talk was the year she took ill opening night, we got to the Talk in time to see her name coming down, most unpleasant! |
