OK it was suggested we chose another two songs to 'fight it out'...so let's go uptempo.

Although I LOVE 'Little by little' it doesn't hold a candle to the masterpiece that is 'In the middle of nowhere'.
In 1965 after 3 ballads in a row it was just the thing to bring Dusty crashing into the charts again. The nearest thing Britain ever got to producing a 'Motown sound'...at the time.

Brian.

Now you've really got me confused it's a NME concert and on piano we have "Mike O'Neil" it would have been just after Jimmy left The Echoes. Mike was the leader of another group who had just disbanded they were "Nero and the Gladiators" he was Nero and my old school friend Tommy Brown played drums in the group with him. I'm not too sure how long Mike was with us!
Cheers

I loved Les Dawson too, he was one of the few comedians who really made me laugh, does anyone realise how difficult it must have been to play the wrong notes?

Thanks for posting this it really cheered me up.

I just think her voice sounds even better on LBL. But both songs come from the same DNA IMO.

BTW whilst we are talking about Dusty's movements on stage - what about the bum wiggle during Dancing In The Street at the NME concert in 64? or 65? At that moment she was the sexiest woman on the planet.

It also has class backing in Madeline, Doris Troy and Alan Price on piano I believe.

This is really hard for me as "The Echoes" did both recordings. The piano on both tracks was played by Jimmy O'Brien. Sorry not Alan Price!!!
LOL. Douggie.....

Alan Price did not play on In The Middle Of Nowhere?

Accoring to the press at that time it was reported that he was so nervous on the session he faulted three times. If I had been asked on a pop trivia quiz who played piano on this Alan Price would have been my answer!!!!

Thanks for putting me straight on Jimmy O'Brien, Douggie

I actually got the Alan Price bit from Paul Howes book.

I was never a huge fan of "In the Middle of Nowhere" - still aren't really. I think it stems from the fact that it came after "You're Hurtin' Kinda Love" which was not a huge hit and I suppose I was hoping for something to "knock me for six" and it didn't quite do it.

But it was a big hit so that was OK - "Little by Little" for me then!
