Posted - 10/05/2008 : 08:37:40 Any Dinah fans here?
I've been buying her records for a few years now but last night as I drove home there was a programme mon Radio 2 about her.
Dinah has a drink problem and died at the young age of 39 - she had a great voice and left behind a wealth of recordings. |

Posted - 13/05/2008 : 22:37:05 I was introduced to Dinah Washington's music in the 1990's. I have a CD with some tracks on it. Good music I like it!

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 22:04:42 Apart from Dinah's voice, isn't it great to hear real instruments, great musicians and a real drummer laying down the beat instead of computer generated music and infernal drum machines?

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 18:51:58 The album I've got with these tracks on is Mad About Dinah, but they do tend to be repeated on other CD's.
Stairway To The Stars CD is another Fav of mine.
According to my info she was married 7 times, have you given her another husband Brian...or am I mis informed!!
She died it seems from an accidental over dose of slimming pills on December 14th 1963. Sad
She was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Carole there's a lot of Dinah's cd available but on Play.com there is one called Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, a 40 track cd for around £5. I just checked hmv online and there is a Diva-Essential Collection with the songs you want for £4.99 |

Posted - 11/05/2008 : 09:33:29 I bought a Dinah Washington CD on the recommendation of Brian at DD a few years ago. I'd only ever heard her on the radio before.
I've since bought a few other CD's and love her voice.

Yeah, love that voice. She made Mad About The Boy her own. My own personal favourite is her version of September In The Rain. Mick
'September in the rain'..Yes!... A Class Song, Mick.
Did Eartha Kitt 'do' 'Mad About The Boy' as well?
I think Noel Coward wrote that song.

Posted - 10/05/2008 : 23:14:25 When she sings A Rocking Good Way with Brook Benton and says Baby You've got What It Takes, his chuckle is infectious!
Brook Benton was also a great singer. |

Posted - 10/05/2008 : 09:03:54 Does anyone like Dinah Washington????!!!! I PUT MY HAND UP I have 56 albums (vinyl) and 47 cd's of this wonderful lady. She is most probably my favourite singer, next to Dusty - an artist with a capital 'A' who could sing ANYTHING - pop, jazz, and blues. There were many great American female singers - Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker etc, but no one could touch Dinah for sheer class and quality. She was married EIGHT TIMES! , but still found time to make some of the greatest recordings of the 20th century.
Dinah's number one fan
