Brian has controversially announced that "The Beach Boys were better than The Beatles"

Before I go and beat him up, I'm wondering what the rest of 'us' think?..

I have always thought that it is futile to pitch one artist against another. Every act has its own fans who will champion their own cause - we do it with Dusty - and that is right and to be commended.

But, it doesn't mean that one artist is better than another. We each have our own preferences.

I admire and respect both The Beach Boys and The Beatles (seen them both live) but, if I had to choose, it would be The Beatles for me (which in no way diminishes my respect for The Beach Boys).

Oh, and by the way, I would vote for Dusty Springfield (if you've heard of her) in the Female category.

Beatles were artistically way ahead of the Beach Boys.

But for me Hendrix was way ahead of the Beatles. When Beatles sang When I'm 64 in 1968 - Hendrix was singing about Voodoo Chile and Burning of the Midnight Lamp.

What do you mean they went "over the deep end"? I guess y'all mean their "white album"? And maybe some of Let it Be?

I think the evolution of The Beatles is fascinating, and I like it all, from start to finish. The Beach Boys got pretty trippy for awhile there, too, btw.

Hello Ruthdavis, I agree that the Beatles really did change the direction of music and the rest is history! As for the girls screaming before the Beatles, there was Elvis and before that Frank Sinatra. I wonder if there will ever be another singer or group to have this kind of following?

I'm with you Carla, I was the biggest Beatle fan ever, until they went shall I say over the deep end.

Gotta be the Beatles for their creative brilliance although I prefer listening to the Beach Boys (Brian Wilson's really) master work Pet Sounds to Sgt Pepper.

I ADORE The Beach Boys, but The Beatles are my favorite rock band of all time. No one compares to them.

Beatles followed by the Stones and the Beach Boys.

I have more Beatles albums than Beach Boys but these days I probably play the BB's just as much as the Beatles.

Yep...The Stones, The Beatles, The Beach boys,The Dave Clark Five,

Not to mention The Who, Manfred Mann and The Animals...etc, etc....All churning out quality stuff.

Thats without all the Motown Groups.

How lucky were we?

That's okay Brian... you are NOT a loser here... you like the Beach Boys and Stones. Two awesome groups!

Firstly I would like to say I was never really a fan of The Beatles, much preferring The Rolling Stones as musicians
I respect others opinions though, and there is no doubt most people like them....BUT, the harmonies of The Beach Boys were second to none.
I KNOW I'm on a loser here, so I'm phoning my friend in the Welsh Valleys for support..."Help me Rhondda"

Beatles.. bigger! They are played everywhere in the world. Beatles, imho... BUT right at the moment my radio station just played 'Help me Rhonda" and now playing 'Little Deuce Coup' respectively, but the Beatles are played many times over on just about ALL of the Air Waves...

Guess Who?

I agree that the Beach Boys had a lot of great summer sounds. But hands down, I have to the Beatles.
