Thanks to Marea for reminding us of this:

Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May (observed in 2008 on May 26). It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action

Super pictures Tere.

Its always interesting to see what our members get up to in all the different parts of the world...keep them coming everyone.

We have Pageants in England with floats and marching bands.

I was down in Rochester in Kent a few years ago and they had a Dicken's pageant..with all the Dickens characters plus some bands, it was very good.

Chris -

No, our fife and drum corps as a unit doesn't, but a few of the members have participated in battle re-enactments. The two reenactors pictured in that one shot are members of a group that are seriously into re-enactments, ensuring everything that they wear, the weapons that they shoot and the food they eat are made as they were during the time of the Civil War.

Here's a couple of the hard-core Civil War Reenactors. Unlike our uniforms made from 'all them new-fangled materials', their outfits are constructed as they would have been in the 1860s.

Can you see 'Civil War Buff' Dusty in one of those outfits? But she couldn't sing Two Brothers because it isn't an authentic Civil War era song (written in the 1950s).

Here's a shot of our little band before a very HOT parade this morning. We all gathered for a backyard picnic afterwards. Hopefully, tomorrow's weather will be a tad cooler.

Thanks Marty. Sorry you've had that going on... yeah, I have heard of numerous people w/ Kidney stones & Gall bladder issues. A lot of adults get their Gall bladder removed (100's of thousands per year in the US alone) I am told. In fact, my brother-in-law had his Gall bladder removed laproscopically last Wed. He's fine and recuping, but had pain before surgery. It just stopped working the doc said, don't know why, but had to come out because he lost about 15 pounds and was sick.
Stay on top of it Marty and take good care.

Sorry you aren't feeling well Pandy. In the beginning of April I passed a kidney stone. Had slight nausea and the worst lower back pain you can imagine. I'd say it was equal to having a baby. My sonogram showed I also have gall bladder stones. KNOCK ON WOOD, THEY AREN'T BOTHERING ME VERY MUCH. Hope you feel better soon.

Carole you often see Veteran's selling small artificial poppy flowers around Veteran's Day and Memorial Day.

Our little fife and drum corps, The Spirit Of Black Rock, is going to march in two Memorial Day parades this weekend - one in Stamford tomorrow, followed by a picnic at our Fife Sgt's home and one in my hometown of Bridgeport on Monday.

Doing some last minute memorizing of some Civil War medleys tonite. Most of the members of the corps have DECADES of practice on these 30+ songs, but I only joined up last year and am playing catch up as far as memorization goes. (I do have one advantage over most of them - I can read music.)
