OK - who is singing this version of 'Doodlin' that you posted?
Definitely not a favorite after listening to Dusty.

I rather like this version, comes in VERY close at second place I reckon.
I've got a 45 of the song by Horace Silver somewhere on Blue Note Reds, gonna see if I can find it.

Posted - 15/06/2008 : 16:00:44 Well of course I like Doodlin' it's from "Ev'rythings Coming Up Dusty" for goodness sake - one of the finest albums E V E R !!!!!!!
Some great lines in Doodlin' "Later The Waiter Had Me Arrested, Took Me To Bellevue Where I Was Tested".
As Brian said, no other girl (apart from Madeline) sounded so soulful in 1965 in the UK. |

Posted - 15/06/2008 : 02:00:54 Smokin' Soul - and I agree the production and sound is perfect. Super soulful.
I cannot think of anyone who can produce this sound today or back then. Another example of a woman "ahead of her time". So gifted.

Posted - 14/06/2008 : 20:49:55 This track has always been way up in my top twenty Dusty recordings. What we have to consider is ...it was 1965 for God's sake!...a British girl singer sounding more American than at least half of the American girl singers of the time ...it's bluesy with a capital B...it's soul with a capital S...it has some of the tightest backing on a song - ever. The production and sound is superb. Finally..can anyone name a British girl singer today - or even then who could carry this off? DOODLIN' IS GREAT - SO THERE!
