Posted - 30/03/2008 : 01:07:57 One of my all time favourites songs is "Dont cry for me argentina".
Would have loved to hear her sing that.
Think I'll have to send Katy another email asking her to sing it Dusty style.

Posted - 01/07/2008 : 21:03:35 Dear Sara
THANK YOU!
It's fabulous. How about giving this a thread by itself. What a find! I love this song and to have it sung by Dusty is like a music miracle!
Thanks very much - you've made my day!

Posted - 12/06/2008 : 02:32:56 I agree. Dusty could have sung the whole Bacharach/David catalogue flawlessly.

Posted - 12/06/2008 : 02:24:17 Several songs I wish Dusty would have done covers on are Easier Said Than Done, The Essexs Tell Him, The Exciters
A duet with Andy Williams singing Moon River
Just about all the Bacharach songs that Dionne recorded, as I am convinced Dusty would have done a better job. At the moment Alfie especially comes to mind.
A duet with Gene Pitney singing 24 Hours From Tulsa
A solo Christmas album, especially "O Holy Night".

Posted - 12/06/2008 : 02:18:54 Thanks SweetBaby for the links - I don't have any Brenda Russell records (!) so this was great to hear (I know she wrote many great songs). I have a few Jackie de Shannon CDs. She's great. Great to see her in action.
Thanks again,

Posted - 12/06/2008 : 02:01:17 Oleta Adams' Get Here is actually a cover of an original by Brenda Russell who's often compared to Dusty. Here's Brenda's version: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ylJbQYhKQ0M
If you'd like to have heard Dusty sing The Weight you might be interested in this version by Jackie DeShannon as the two ladies do have comparable musical sensibilities (while remaining complete originals!): http://youtube.com/watch?v=-GeNIgj5RUo |

Posted - 11/06/2008 : 23:31:05 I would love to have heard what she'd have done with "Standing Knee Deep In A River (Dying Of Thirst)"... not sure who the original singer was but I love Kathy Mattea's version cos she's one of my favourite, and much underrated, singers!

Here's Bettye singing 'Let Me Down Easy (it's not the track on 'See All Her Faces)

Can't really imagine Dusty signing up for the other title though! Ain't 'Son of a Preacher Man' enough! Lord!

Posted - 09/06/2008 : 19:53:48 Hi Dave
Thanks for the link - great images. I have that Dusty version and it's great. Carole King slowed the song right down on her 'Tapestry' album. This way it sounds very adult. It was the B side of Roberta's 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' - one of my first singles.
I couldn't find the Roberta version on YouTube but here's an accurate cover:

Posted - 08/06/2008 : 02:31:44 Dustys takes on these versions would have been great...
Aretha:
The Weight You're All I Need to Get By I'm in Love I Can't See Myself Leaving You
Carole King:
So Far Away
Roberta Flack:
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
and Oleta's 'Get Here', yes, that would have been good too.

Posted - 08/06/2008 : 01:25:00 I agree Dave. Last time this thread came up I suggested Dusty could have done justice to the whole Roberta Flack songbook.

Posted - 08/06/2008 : 01:00:23 thought i'd dig this thread back up- just heard Roberta Flack on the radio singing "killing me softly"- i reckon Dusty could've could have done a great version- not any discredit to Roberta but its a track that to my mind would sound great Dustified

Posted - 07/05/2008 : 16:11:11 I truly believe that Dusty could have sung any song.
Whenever anyone mentions a song they wished Dusty would have recorded, I agree.
Since "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" was mentioned above, I have to pick another Webber/Rice song...Memory, from Cats.
