The following information comes from the latest Dusty Springfield Bulletin (July 2008)

Rhino are working on a special edition of 'Dusty in Memphis' for release later this year. At the moment the intention is to release a double CD. One CD will contain the 'Dusty in Memphis' album plus related bonus tracks. The other CD will include the original demos of the songs (not sung by Dusty - these are the demos that Dusty chose her songs from). Additionally, several tracks from Dusty's third BBC TV series will be included with, perhaps, a version of 'I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore' that Dusty recorded for the film 'Love and Money.

This package is welcome. I'm not very excited about the demo material but it's a very interesting idea (I don't think this has been done before). My perfect edition would include out-takes and alternative versions to give a sense of how the album developed. And especially to illustrate Dusty's technique of recording her songs piece by piece and re-editing until her song was as perfect as she could get it. Elvis Presley is still releasing new albums made up of out-takes, alternative versions and show rehearsals. The Beach Boys released a great box set around the making of 'Pet Sounds'.
I don't know of any similar material for Dusty (I'd buy this kind of Dusty material if it was available).

What most intrigues me is the possible inclusion of the BBC tracks. These could include 'Windmills of Your Mind', 'Don't Forget About Me' and 'I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore'. This means that these BBC tracks will be (or have already been) leased by the BBC.

I'm therefore presuming we're going to get Dusty's third BBC TV series, 'Decidedly Dusty' (1969), on DVD and maybe CDs of the tracks too. This would be a great anniversary production. The first BBC DVD tracks might also be released on CD.

What would be on your perfect 'Dusty in Memphis' special edition?

Does anyone know whether 'Decidedly Dusty' will be re-leased in 2009 as a follow up to the 2007 DVD? Or of any related CD plans?

I received the DSB yesterday.

I certainly agree that we don't want poor material released. I'm just surprised there have been no releases of good quality demos or works in progress (of songs that Dusty released in her life-time)- just as bonus tracks. I agree there are too many Elvis releases. Some of them are very good though.

Regarding your last question the best person to answer that would be Paul Howes.

I think what they are planning for the 2nd cd on Dusty In Memphis sounds rather good but your suggestions are pretty good too. However I would hate Universal to milk any Dusty recordings the way BMG are doing with Elvis - they probably release a cd of him if he sneezed twice!

Quality not quantity is what Dusty wanted, and we as her fans respect that decision.

I take it the bulletin is out then? Hope my copy arrives tomorrow.
