I know Dusty was mad on Some Of Your Lovin' and I do like the record but I think she made many better records than that.

I wonder what sDusty felt was so special about the record, perhaps she thought she had finally got the "sound" she was searching for!

How do other's feel?

Its always been my favourite Dusty recording..it was just so polished and soulful.
Tremendous backing singing and I just think this was the sound she was trying to achieve from the start of her singing career.

I obviously like many, many other performances but this will always be No1 for me.

I like what Brian says - that this recording was ahead of its time and it's soul of the highest order. I hear it as ahead of its time but I wasn't sure because without researching I can't recall what else was going on in 1965 but The Beatles 'Rubber Soul' is one benchmark.

No-one in the UK was recording at such a high quality as Dusty. I would go beyond Brian's plaudits to say I don't think female vocalists in the USA were recording to this standard either. To me this is the first Dusty 'art work' in that she shaped, produced or directed it and got that sound - which transcends soul and anything else in the pop world including skin colour. The song links to other Dusty 'art works' like 'Goin' Back' and then 'Memphis'. This exquisite crafting makes Dusty much more important than just about any of her contempories male or female and on a par with the (few) very greatest pop artists of all time. Dusty was creating and shaping new pop sounds and not just singing in a booth and doing as she was told. Brian Wilson gets so much praise. I'm waiting for the day when Dusty really gets her dues.

It's a bit like the (very different) Ronettes' 'Be My Baby'. It's a great pop song that I take for granted because I've played it over and over but if I really listen it's clearly a master piece in the history of pop. I guess this is my gushing Dusty moment for tonight!

Carole regarding your 2nd last sentence about what 45's did if left near a fire.

I NEVER did that, I took great care of my records and that's why the first ever 45 I got in the late 50's still plays and sounds great! Incase you wonder what it is
it's When by The Kalin Twins.

This song has always been my most favourite Dusty single.

'All I see Is You' comes a close second, but there is just something about' Some Of Your Lovin' that gets to me right from the opening bars..Even after all this time, I love to hear it.

I remember being devastated when some time after I bought the single, it was left near the fire, and got all out of shape and unplayable...

Remember?.. 45rpms did that quite regularly...

I also remember being thrilled when I found out that it was Dusty's favourite also.

I love it too, but there are a lot of other tracks of Dusty's I love more than this one. So it wouldn't be in my top ten.. I never really got the greatness. I mean, it is great, but 'Just a Little Lovin'', for example, is SO much better! Just in my opinion, of course.

I'm sure the Honeybees version was issued before Dusty's...however despite being a lovely record, like Memphis says - not a patch on Dusty's version.
'Some of your lovin' was years ahead of it's time for a white girl singer - it's a SOUL record of the highest order. I can see why Dusty loved it so much - it had a true 'American sound' - a beautiful melody and superb production. Still in MY top ten after all these years.

This is one my original favourite Dusty songs (it's so relaxing) from when I had only heard a few tracks on the radio. It's slipped down my chart over the years because there's so much other Dusty music to choose from.

I think this is where Dusty got her sound. It's like an early version of her 'Memphis' sound. It's a lovely production with Dusty at the controls and a lovely performance. It must have been a labour of love. Carole King asked Dusty to consider recording it. What an honour!

I've just checked Paul Howes book and he includes something about Dusty going home with her recording and playing it 14 times so she must have been really proud of it. It was a good hit in the UK too and this was the song that Ahmet Ertegun (Atlantic Records) heard and was so impressed he offered her a record contract if she ever wanted one - extremely high praise. This was a great record to have come out of 1965 - Dusty is at the top of her game. Listening to it now it's not easy to put a date to it by sound; it's the lyrics that give it away just a little bit.

I have the track by the Honeybees (also 1965). Dusty sings it straight but adds lushness, warmth and emotion that takes the song way beyond the Honeybees to Dusty heaven.

I agree Karl it is not one of my top 20 Dusty favories either, although I like song. Dusty always was very fond of the songs that Carole King wrote. Didn't Carole write this one especially for Dusty? I always felt that Dusty's love of Carole Kings's music is why she was so fond of this song.
