Posted - 28/10/2008 : 03:11:17 Sorry Karl - my reasoning was that this related to Connie's recovery from the ailment that was the initial reason for this thread & also to Gloria's Connie biopic project that I touched on here a couple of posts ago. Anyway - James has been good enough to start a fresh thread for future posts on Connie. |

Posted - 27/10/2008 : 09:20:22 I wish you had started a fresh thread for this!
I thought Connie was ill again.
Please start new threads when it's about a different situation, thanks! |

Posted - 27/10/2008 : 00:14:12 Connie was in the audience at Gloria Estefan's South Florida concert last night. Gloria had Connie stand & take a bow prior to her [ie. Gloria] singing Where the Boys Are with a montage of Connie clips playing onscreen. And after the report of how Gloria only half-filled Wembley Arena last month it's nice to note that the homecoming date that ended her tour was an SRO triumph. |

Posted - 14/08/2008 : 00:52:12 Here are a few links from the 1965 San Remo Festival that I thought might be of interest to all:
Petula Clark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRFmkak40C4
Connie Francis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXq0dj0QOWU&feature=related
Gene Pitney: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucPch09RaWg
Dusty Springfield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3C1wA3tR-c
Is it just me or does Connie Francis' and Dusty's arm and hand movement resemble each other? I always felt that they did. I already had a friend agree that that do, so I hope we aren't the only ones that feel that way.
I always felt I could take Connie Francis' in small doses, but I was extremely impressed with her performance on the above link. Italian is such a musical sounding language.
Hope everyone enjoys the U-tube clips and I want to hear how others feel about those hand movement? Both were known for the uniqueness and probably have also taken some good natured kidding about it over the years.

I'm pretty sure it's from the San Remo Festival, January of 1965: besides Connie & Dusty, Petula Clark & Gene Pitney also participated. |

The pic of Connie with Dusty is really nice and it's one you seldom see - Connie is even smaller than Dusty!
However recent pics and videos I've seen of Connie she looks very different, I wonder if she's had things "done"????
I will not say one thing or another. I will say that it's an occasion to bring up the anti-age and anti-imperfect attitudes in the States though. Especially towards women.
That said, either way Connie is still attractive to me, inside and out.
And I still want to know from where that Dusty picture came from! |

Posted - 13/08/2008 : 01:20:06 In an August 11 Celebrity News Service article Gloria Estefan has again brought up the authorized Connie Francis biopic she's been trying to mount since 2000 saying: "We've got a director on board and a lot of interest from different producers. The budget is the only issue. We'd like to keep it an independent film." Gloria now hopes the film will be released next year. While I think she has the voice I'd have to suggest that Gloria who turns 51 in three weeks has had it for somewhat too long to play Connie during her heyday & a biopic starring Gloria would necessitate considerable suspension of belief or else cursorily deal with Connie's career as a hitmaker - in which case it's rather illogical to cast a singer rather than an actress. I'll watch the developments - & I hope eventually the movie - with interest!

Posted - 27/07/2008 : 23:58:36 A Press Association report from 4 hours ago indicates that Connie is still hospitalized: the Sunday Mirror quotes her agent as saying she's doing well. The Sunday Mirror identifies Connie's indisposition as "dangerously high blood pressure following a fall" - this last stated factor was never mentioned in the US reports; I wonder if a report of Connie "falling ill" didn't get misconstrued in crossing the Atlantic.
Here's a live clip of Connie singing Yesterday in the 80s: http://youtube.com/watch?v=eih2a1Pr6ww

I wish Connie well, she's had a lot of trauma in her life. However I think it's very rude of her fans to leave when they heard she was not appearing, Neil Sedaka who was also on the show and did an extended act to compensate for Connie is excellent on stage so they missed a treat there!
The news of Connie's indisposition likely discomfited some audience members to the point where they wouldn't have been able to enjoy a concert by anybody. |
