Sweetbaby (Richard) tells us its the anniversary of this event:

King Curtis is stabbed to death in an altercation outside his NYC apartment a tragedy reportedly witnessed by Aretha Franklin & Sam Moore of Sam & Dave.

...This got me thinking about the numerous music 'people' who have lost their lives prematurely, due to either murder or fatal accident.

So why don't we remember those people here?

One name per person to start with, plus cause of death.

This is the morbid thread.

Thankya kindly,

Carole R xx

Answer me this: my friend says that this is why you never hear him singing "Leaving On A Jet Plane" on the radio; it's always Peter, Paul, and Mary's version. Did they just have the bigger hit with it, or is John's version banned cause it would be "disrespectful"?

Said friend, BTW, also says that on a singer/songwriter compilation, which has songs sung by their writers, they use PP&M's instead of John's as you might think. He also reports that a Muppets special on DVD deleted a scene where John and some Muppets are in a plane.

Peter Paul & Mary's version of Leaving on a Jet Plane is heard on the radio rather than John Denver's as PPM's was a no#1 hit in 1969 & despite writing the song JD didn't cut it until after PPM & then only as an album track not a single.

Brian just mentioned McFadden & Whitehead in the Philly thread: John Whitehead was shot dead by unknown assailants on May 11 2004 - he was 54. (Gene McFadden died of cancer on January 27 2006 - he was 56.)

This is news to me, so what do they do when they release a compiltion of his hits, leave that song off the track list?

Dottie West, car accident (and I since learned that she wanted the driver of the car to be treated before her, she was truly a noble person, as not many literally would give their life for someone else)
