Posted - 17/01/2008 : 19:19:09 I came across this record cover by accident, it's of a band called the Long Blondes, (who aren't any good, in my opinion). It was the record sleeve that caught my attention. Is it or is it not Dusty and Gene Pitney on Ready Steady Go? Weird, huh?

And then this is the pic of Dusty by the record player which I'm sure we're all familiar with:

I thought absoutely the same like you, reputation! She was maybe forced by the person who took that photograph. Or she did not like the music that was playing.

Posted - 19/01/2008 : 11:08:11 Well - maybe Dusty was one of their influences?
I know what you mean - it's something that I would love to hang into my living room.

on the MYspace link that rhiannon posted-- the band state that bacharach and david (amongst a plethora of other successfull writers) are an "influence"- a tenuous link, but only thing i found after visiting several sites on the interweb-- but its cool art work isnt it- i wouldnt mind a larger image

Posted - 18/01/2008 : 12:29:20 I very much doubt it, until I saw that record in the store I'd never even heard of them. It would be good to hear the story behind their choice though. |

Posted - 18/01/2008 : 09:12:44 Many of us used to take pictures of Dusty from the tv screens during her 60's shows - long before videos etc; they came out rather well too! |

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 23:36:49 Yep, I remember the 'frozen picture trend,' Vera.
Never heard of The Long Blondes, but they have good taste in pictures.

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 23:15:35 Karl, it's when you pause the screen and take a photograph of it. Hence the term "frozen" picture. These pictures only began circulating the internet after Dusty's death. |

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 23:10:05 The picture was frozen from the TV years later, after she died..

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 23:05:04 The even weirder thing about this is that the Gene picture in paticular was taken from a TV screen. It's a picture only circulating on the Dusty Forums and not something like a promotion photograph! It was taken after her death if I remember right.
It was that time when everybody did experiments with TV footage and cameras. You surely remember the "frozen" picture trend! |

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 22:50:49 That's so weird! Why have they got Dusty on their album cover? I've never heard of them either..

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 22:36:23 They're a sort of indie/pop band from Sheffield, UK, Linda. I'd never heard of them until today when my workmate was talking about them. She happened to show me their myspace page where I recognised the Dusty picture:

If you click on the song "Once and Never Again" you'll see the cover with the Dusty picture on it. Can't say I like the music, but it's an interesting choice of record sleeve! |

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 20:41:46 They certainly have most excellent taste!.......can't say I've heard of the group though!

Posted - 17/01/2008 : 20:35:59 That's a neat find, Rhiannon! No question about whether or not it's Dusty... but I wonder why ??? Who are the Long Blondes, and when did they record this record?
That cover would make a nice framed print.
