Felt here in Swindon. Not by me, i was asleep, but my wife felt the movement.
I am quite a deep sleeper to - no earthquake for me over here. But then - it wasn't that bad in my area anyway.
How does it feel? I never experienced one before...

Posted - 27/02/2008 : 23:56:35 "So....is it "Look out London In April' then T?"
That is just what I was thinking, Carole! I hope the gods that were angry with me in L.A. didn't pass the word on to their brethren (and 'sistren') in London.

Posted - 27/02/2008 : 23:43:31 Yeah, that one in January 1994 was a shocker! Felt like the earth was moving in every direction at the same time. The prior ones I rode out just felt like the building was riding a wave. It was fortunate that it occurred at approx 4am, when freeways and parking structures were somewhat empty. The loss of life could have been catastrophic.

Good times!
I remember that one in 1994, I was living in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I came back from my philosophy class, turned on the TV, to find that the freeway system had completely collapsed. Bizarre, surreal images.

Posted - 27/02/2008 : 22:42:19 I experienced several of them while I was living in Los Angeles during the 80s and 90s...and part of my responsibilities as a hotel security director and loss control manager was earthquake preparedness and response (i.e. having an emergency response plan in place, employee training, having emergency supplies in place throughout the hotel, etc.)
The first shaker is stressful enough as it is happening, but the numerous aftershocks are what really stress out people. The first once puts them on edge. You never know if the first one was "The Big One" or only a lead up to the next BIGGER one. When the aftershocks keep coming, you're on edge already, just waiting for the worst.

Posted - 27/02/2008 : 21:21:18 Is it weird that I'm happy I got to be in an earthquake? It sounded exactly like the earthquakes I've seen on TV! But yeah, big earthquakes must be scary! Has anyone else been in any other earthquakes? I don't remember the one in 1983 cos it was down south and I was 2.

I think the actual shaking must've woke me up...
The water board have been doing some work in the road in front of the house, and I thought we were just gonna fall down the gaping hole they've left.It was the noise that was the weird part, it sounded like someone was dragging metal along concrete.
Very strange and weird.
I thought about it for about three seconds and went back to sleep.
They've never stopped talking about it on the radio today...
Something like that makes you realise how frightening 'Big Quakes' must be.

Posted - 27/02/2008 : 17:39:15 I was just gonna post about this! I thought my house was gonna blow up or something! The whole room was shaking and it was really loud, at first I thought, why are the neighbours drilling at 1am and why is it making the whole house shake? And then I thought it can't be that, it must be my electric system about to blow up or something and I'm gonna die! And then it stopped and I thought I must be going nuts and forgot about it. And then my mum came round today and said "Did you hear the earthquake?" And I was like "Earthquake?! "
