Thanks Carole,
I didn't choose the sleeve. The producer at Universal did but I am delighted because I think it's beautiful without being obvious. Favourites? Hmmn that's a hard one but if I had to choose three from each disc ... Magic Garden, I Close My Eyes and Count To Ten, What's It Gonna Be, I Don't Want To hear It Anymore, How Can I Be Sure and Nothing Has Been Proved. This could all change tomorrow! I should mention that the later Atlantic singles are not mono single versions. I forgot to update the track listing above when I copied it from my original notes. Here is the track listing with the correct versions.

DISC ONE

I Only Want To Be With You (Single Version)
Stay Awhile (Single Version)
Wishin’ And Hopin’ (Single Version)
I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself (Single Version)
All Cried Out (Mono Album/ EP Version)
Losing You (Single Version)
Guess Who (Single Version)
Live It Up (Single Version)
Your Hurtin’ Kinda Love (Single Version)
In The Middle Of Nowhere (Single Version)
Some Of Your Lovin’ (Single Version)
Little By Little (Single Version)
You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me (Single Version)
Goin’ Back (Single Version)
All I See Is You (Single Version)
I’ll Try Anything (Single Version)
Give Me Time (Single Version)
The Look Of Love (From “Casino Royale”) (Single Version)
What’s It Gonna Be (Single Version)
I Can’t Wait Until I See My Baby’s Face (Mono Album Version)
If You Go Away (Mono Album Version)
Magic Garden (Mono EP Version)
I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten (Single Version)
I Will Come To You (Single Version)
Love Power (Stereo)
Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart (Stereo)
I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today (Stereo)

DISC TWO

Son-Of-A Preacher Man (Single Version)
Don’t Forget About Me (Single Version)
Breakfast In Bed (Single Version)
I Don’t Want To Hear It Anymore (Single Version)
The Windmills Of Your Mind (Single Version)
Am I The Same Girl (Single Version)
In The Land Of Make Believe (Single Version)
Brand New Me (Stereo)
Silly, Silly Fool (Stereo)
I Wanna Be A Free Girl (Stereo)
Lost (Stereo)
How Can I Be Sure (Single Version)
Spooky (Single Version)
What Good Is I Love You (Stereo)
Haunted (Stereo)
I Believe In You (Stereo)
I Wish That Love Would Last (Stereo)
What Have I Done To Deserve This PET SHOP BOYS WITH DUSTY SPRINGFIELD (Stereo)
Nothing Has Been Proved (From “Scandal”) (Stereo)
In Private (Stereo)
Reputation (Stereo)
Arrested By You (Single Version) (Stereo)
Wherever Would I Be DUSTY SPRINGFIELD & DARYL HALL (Stereo)
Roll Away (Stereo)

Hello Wayne!

Thank for you're posting, fascinating stuff...I hope you don;t mind me asking but is there any Dusty material in the vaults at Universal that as yet hasnt been released? Any music or video? Is all of her material stored in a warehouse somewhere?....stupid questions...but always wondered...any idea???

Many thanks, Neil :-)

Neil,
Not stupid questions at all but unfortunately I cannot answer them. I did all the work on this compilation from home. A good way to find out would be to contact Paul at the Dusty Springfield Bulletin. He has documented Dusty's recordings very thoroughly and would doubtlessly have a better idea than me. Thanks for asking though!

Sorry if you already got asked the following question, Wayne... But I was wondering how you got into the record business? Sounds like a pretty interesting job...!

Hey Vera, The truth is that my dream job was making compilation CDs for record companies. That is the one thing in the world I had always wanted to do more than anything! I emailed people untill they were blue in the face and gave in! It's a minefield though. Nothing ever turns out the way you plan it and you have to make your peace with that before you even submit an idea. Dusty Springfield Gold is not how I originally imagined it but it I am very proud of it and happy with it. As far as I am aware, it's still coming out next Monday. Yay!

I really hope that this new cd is gonna be advertised like mad..

The 'One and Only' show has raised Dusty's profile amongst the General public. so, with abit of enthusiastic effort from Universal, 'Gold' has the potential to be a huge hit.

Carole,
It's unlikely that it would receive much promotion. The Gold series is designed to go straight to catalogue and would not be part of their TV advertised schedule unfortunately.

I've just learned that the release has been put back to March 17th.

Why do the constantly delay Dusty's (and others) releases but especially Dusty? This cd has already been delayed.

Back in the 60's they used to put the blame on Dusty with remarks like She's Still Recording The Songs" etc, they can hardly pin the blame on Dusty now - perhaps it was never her fault to begin with!

When Dusty was with EMI her records were out on time - every time!

All I know is that when I was responsible for pretty large training projects (up to £3m a time) if I wasn't on time and reasonably within budget on delivery I would have been given the old heave-ho. Seems to me that I could pick up a job or two in my business consultancy role - bearing in mind my recent experience with the Endemol/BBC way of running things and with knowledge of the slippage on release dates for so many recordings, it strikes me that there is a real need for some decent project management skills in business these days - I used to lecture on just this topic .

In that case Janie I think you and I need to lecture Universal.

We've had so many releases from Dusty in recent years so all her material has been cleaned up digitally and should be ready to go, so just what IS the problem?

I reckon one of the problems could well be that there is nobody fighting away in Dusty's corner on her behalf. Indeed there is no reason why this should be the case anyway, because as we understand it, the rights to her recordings were sold whilst she was ill.

I really have no idea how it now works now with regard to who can 'pick up' the recordings, do what they will with them and then release them in whatever format..in order to make a pond/dollar or two .

Maybe Wayne, you might be able to give us an insight as to what had to be done in order for Dusty's recordings to be available for your compilation? It would be jolly good if you could .

We haven't heard from Wayne for a few weeks and I see on Play.com that the release of Dusty Gold is now March 31st, the release date changes every week.

Strike while the iron is hot, Dusty's profile is high just now don't wait until it cools down again.

Remember in the old days when they used to talk about a rush-release? Can you imagine that happening from Universal?

Exactly my point Reputation,

We have to face facts, they neededto get this disc out pretty damn quick, or they'd miss the bandwagon... Lets hope that they haven't...

Hey everyone,
I've been busy for the last few weeks so sorry I haven't stopped by. Gold has indeed been put back to the 31st. Like you, I hoped they would get it out quicker but hopefully it'll still pull in the new fans. It's currently #280 on the Amazon.co.uk chart which is great for a collection that has no TV promotion.

I've been busy doing a little more work to get Dusty heard more with the young folks! Go to the General thread and look for !!! Show your support for Dusty on Bebo NOW!!! to find out more. Hope you'll support me on this one too!
