I'm still not sure whether I've got tickets or not - you had to apply by post and I've yet to hear.

Fingers crossed - full report IF I do get there .

'An Audience With Katy Setterfield'

I've just realised I was going to scan the 'programme' detail in before writing this but needless to say I've forgotten - you might not think its a big deal but it is.....you see if I use my scanner when I'm in 'explorer' my system hangs and I have to restart my pc. Never mind - I'll scan it in AFTER this so you can be titillated twice

So, what DOES one say about Katy? Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again. She is 'Something Special' . Having 'experienced' however many weeks of 'The One and Only' it was plain to see this woman has talent but...and it is a HUGE BUT......wait 'til you experience Katy as 'Katy'. Hear her live, interpreting songs Katy-style NOT Dusty but KATY, and you will recognise the potential that exists.

The first half of the show was the woman herself doing 'her thing'....a couple of Carole King's, a Beatles number (we were 'treated' to the demo of 'Help' she did at the age of 14...and I need it explained to me why she hasn't been picked up before....IMHO she showed more in that recording than I twigged when I heard the acetate Dusty made at a similar age ), a take-off of Tina Turner which was not only hilarious but the calibre of which wouldn't have been out of place in the final of The One and Only, a similar one of Cher (Cher aka Jo Burns was also in the audience ), a rendition of 'A Piece of My Heart'........I should have written it all down because I got 'lost' somewhere in there......

The songs were interspersed with little anecdotes accompanied by images up on the big screen of her childhood memories of music, her love of horses, her family.........

I was humbled (yep ME ) because near the beginning of the show she made comment of two special people who were in the audience.....a certain Jane Northam and Jo Burns. I can't tell you what that meant, I really can't. I honestly believe that Katy could be at the beginning of something big here and I feel very privileged to have been a VERY small part (miniscule) of whatever success she may have. Who knows though in the world of show biz?

During the interval Katy was transformed and arrived back on stage as Cilla Black....no, that's not right...Dusty Springfield....yes that was who she became, 'Dusty Springfield'

I won't reel off the full list of songs she sang, not least because I can't remember them (Oh what a night [:o), as was the night before but that had nothing to do with Katy Setterfield ) but there are things to tell you. Since winning 'The One and Only', Katy has managed to capture the 'breathiness' quality that Dusty had. Although there was an indication that she could 'do it', we only saw elements of it previously. To all those detractors of mine who told me Katy wouldn't be able to do justice to 'The Look of Love' let me tell you something - you were WRONG. Of all the 'Dusty' songs I've heard her sing, for me at least this was the best, simply the best (and NO, that wasn't a reference to her quite brilliant Tina Turner impression either ). A very solid performance of 'If You Go Away' was also given. I'm sure there were others...Goin Back - what attention to detail as she even forgot the lyrics ...we did a brilliant double act on that one because she referred to me to help her out but I couldn't as I was faffing with me camera and wasn't really listening! ....pure 'Dusty' farce if ever you saw such a thing but as I told Katy in an e-mail today.........what authenticity, what attention to detail ..'Sheer Magic'

After the show, Katy said to me that she has looked more closely at the 'less well known' songs - hopefully she might be able to include them because she will be able to do them justice, of that I have no doubt.

Another thing that for me was so noticeable is that Katy is much more 'relaxed' as Dusty. The arm movements, the teasing seductiveness of 'the eyes', the general demeanour is much more 'real', much less choreographed, more natural.

Katy had exciting news as there will be an album released, hopefully in the autumn through a record label. She has been heavily involved with working towards this as well as her 'Dusty' stuff leading up to LA. Exciting but critical times for her and her husband Andy.

I'm sure in the course of our conversation she told me a lot more which I will report as and when it comes to mind (you all know I'm menopausal so don't expect ace reporting here). Having said that of course if I was an ace reporter I'd sit here and make up a whole load of things to tell you irrespective of whether Katy and I talked about them or not .

Ah well.....having just downed my second HUGE glass of champagne (don't ask ) I'd better see if I can get some photos on for you. Just as much as I'm not an ace reporter I'm not an ace photographer either so you'll just have to 'squint' when viewing them in order to achieve the desired effect .

Oops forgot....Katy said she will be dressed as Katy for DD. I'm pleased about that .

Thanks SO much Janie for this wonderful report- definately sounds as though you had a great time! I'm gutted I wasn't there, as I supported Katy from day 1 of TOAO and just knew she was gonna win! She is an incredible talent, and to have heard her singing live would have been amazing...still I could always go to Vegas instead!!!

Hi Janie.

So glad you had a great time there with Katy. I will look forward to the photos, dont worry about the quality, any pics is better than no pics.

The great thing is that she never forgot to mention you. I think she really does appreciate all the support you and many others have given her. Like when she replies to emails, they are personalized, with all that has been happening to her since TOAO, she can still find time to reply.

Like Emma i thought she was goin' places from the first time that i saw her. She has an amazing talent, and one wonders why she has not been "noticed" before.

The last time i emailed her i said that i hoped she was coming to Swindon. Not had reply yet (which i understand) but sounds like it would be a fantistic night if she does.

Once again Janie many thanks for report.

Sorry to have squashed your post in between my posts Emma - the dinner in the Northam household had to be served up and as I'm a Nigella Lawson-type (NOT) I had to pay some attention to it - i.e. telling t'other half when to turn on/off the oven...I can tell that because my pc has a clock on it .

Here are some photies...
