They are one of those groups who I didn't appreciate at the time, but looking back were quite good. 'Waterloo sunset' and 'Sunny afternoon' are my favourites.

Great rock band from the United Kingdom!
They really were hard "enemies" for the Beatles in the early 60's.
Their "All day and all of the night" and of course "You really got me" were great famous hits in 1964. So the Beatles had problems to beat them.
But Ray and Dave Davies are sometimes very strange persons. I wonder why.

Luv, Sgt. Pepper

Ray Davies never had a very strong voice but they made a lot of good records.

I can remember some years ago in the States when visiting friends who had young relations visiting and their young nephew (16 years old) was a big fan and was amazed when I told him I bought Kinks records when I was 16!

Also I remember buying their hit "All Day & All Of The Night" back in the 60's and my boss asked me what I'd bought and what it was called, he came out with a very funny remark which I've never forgotten but I can't include it here!!!!!

I think The Kinks are great too!

They made so many great songs;

Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, You Really Got Me, David Watts, Lola, Autumn Almanac, Days, Tired of Waiting For You etc..etc...

They really carved a niche for themselves with their vignettes of British life and quirkiness.

I like songs like "Waterloo Sunset", "David Watts", "Autumn Almanac", "Dedicated follower of fashion", "Mr. Pleasant", "A well respected man" and "Victoria". Quite a lot. So I think.

I love the Kinks - your bit about their quirkiness is so true, they were a unique Brit band.
Love all the songs you mention too Paul.
