I love interacting with little kids and asking them questions, getting their take on the world. They have such definite ideas. I would love to talk with the little Tere and see what she had on her mind.

Just remember - those little kids are still inside us somewhere. It is up to us to take care of them now. If the "grown-ups" didn't do such a great job back then, we have to make amends now (and forgive those grown-ups).

Funny you should say that Tere, I've been in thought along the same lines today, as I've been doing my rounds (delivering Mother's day flowers, and tomorrow.....groan!!) Imagining the pics, I've been thinking to myself 'what would that School-boy think of me?'.....Still, none of us can turn the Clock, just gotta make the best of things as they are and not get to hung-up on life!

I've had some god-awful dreams of watching myself as a child. I woudn't want to go back, but I wish I could have sent some guidance or mentorship or something. UGh.! I'd have liked to tell myself that I am going to be OK.

I think I'm going back. Hmm...

Grownup (Carly Simon)

I stood in the doorway in my white nightgown
Red roses on cotton, I stood three feet from the ground
The grownups inside used words I didn't know
But still I enjoyed the show

They looked so lovely, they looked so self-assured
And I just like them would know it all when I matured
And I wouldn't be afraid of the darkness or the bears
Or the cracks in the ceiling upstairs

Now I've just gotten older, Ive just gotten taller
And the little ones, they call me a grownup

Last night at a friend's house a little girl was there
She stood in the doorway playing with her hair
She looked up to me as if I could do no wrong
As I got up to sing my song

I sang it with a shiver in my throat and in my knees
Feeling just as small as a thistle in a breeze
But the child's imagination carried me along
And saw me through my song

Now I've just gotten older, I've just gotten taller
And the little ones call me a grownup

Dustily yours, Astro

Astro, that is SOOO beautiful...and so true.

WE never basically change do we?..We just get taller and older.

Thanks so much for that.

Carly Simon has quite an 'insight into 'life' I think.

Her song 'Coming around Again' is also very insightful.

Yes, thanks, never heard that before
And it is true, when you're a kid you think grown ups know everything, but they don't, they never did.

My Auntie, Mum, and me (lookin' scary) yesterday

Why am I the only one with scary red eyes? Maybe I'm really an alien

P.S. I hope they don't see this, they'll kill me!

Time to bump this topic up again.

My sister in law just sent me this picture of our two kids. Both were born in November 2005, but Meili (on the left) is only in the 5th percentile for height, and Ben (my son, on the right) is in the 95th percentile. That's as different as can possibly be...

Meili's ethnicity is Chinese, Ben's is aboriginal (native Canadian) but 1/4 black (can't tell at all, but his birth mother had nappy hair!! ) I think that might account for a lot of the difference in size.

Meili and my son, JB, on my dad's tractor

All my parents' grandchildren... such a fine looking group

Ab fab pics Linda, thanks for sharing them.

Looks like the Brady Bunch!

Can I ask what you mean in your post when you use the word 'percentile'?..

Percentile is a way to compare your own child's height with all other children of the same age. Both kids are 18 months old, but Benoit is in the 95th percentile, meaning he's bigger than 95% of all other 18 month olds (based on medical data). Meili is in the 5th percentile, meaning she's only bigger than 5% of 18 month olds.
