Thanks for posting this Emma. It's new to me too, but I can't help but question a few things said on this video.
First Wishin' and Hopin' Dusty's first top 10 hit? What about I Only Want To Be With You and Stay Awhile? I'm pretty sure they both bit the top 10, well maybe not Stay Awhile. I know that there were many local charts out around the world.
I am sure I'm opening up a can of worms here, but what the heck! Sorry Dusty, I have to disagree with you about Wishin' and Hopin' being sexist. True the lyrics are wear your hair just for him, do the things he likes to do... but a guy could be singing this to another guy or a woman singing it to another woman, or a male and female couple. Is the song sexist than? What is wrong wanting to look your best for a person you like? Maybe I'm thinking like an old fart? LOL! But I always felt that way about this song. It's such a happy sounding song and I always loved it. Plus Dusty you did say you stole it from Dionne Warwick, you go girl!!!!
Wishin' and Hopin' was the first of Dusty's singles to make the US Top 10. I Only Want To Be With You only made it to No 12 in Billboard, while Stay Awhile only scraped into the Top 40 at No 38.
There was quite a disparity between Dusty's chart success in the UK and that in the US.
