I have experienced a wonderful problem with my 'new' system today and it struck me that it might be worth setting up a thread in which we can 'share' any pc issues we may have had and, if a solution has been found we can 'share' that as well .

I have a brand new pc which I hope you will all be thrilled to hear about - I have not, have I, been able to view your videos, photos and do whatever else you expect of me to any great effect .

My excitement turned to frustration this morning when I tried to post here on the site. I was typing at my usual speed but for some unknown reason the keys were unresponsive, letters were being missed out and so on. All had been well yesterday when I was setting it up.

This is what the problem turned out to be: What happened to me is that earlier today I had downloaded Skype version 4.1 which apparently has some internet explorer add-ons - it is these add-ons that caused the problem for me.

Solution: Disable the add-ons. Go to Tools in Internet Explorer and under programs tab select 'Manage Add-ons' Disable the relevant add-ons - as I say in my case it happened to be the Skype ones but other third party softwares can be equally complicit in the problem.

I know that I have correctly identified the problem because I did a system restore to take me back to before I had loaded Skype.

I hope my little to-do here may be of some help to others .

What a great idea for a thread Janie. Certainly we have some I.C.T whizzes on here no doubt, so any information about PC issues will be gratefully received!

Shall I make this a 'sticky' for future references?

Janie can you run all this by me again?

I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about, PC language is foreign to me!!!!

Also I fear you are showing off with your new found knowledge!!!!

But knowledge so painfully acquired, Karl!

I'll make it sticky Emma as I'm on the thread now - oops, just realised you've already done it. Many thanks MD .

Even more problems on the new pc! Good old Dell NOT, although I can't blame the people who came to my assistance as they were mostly good guys.........they are the workers, they can't help the fact that the rich bosses have relocated all support to sunnier climes in order to reduce costs. Its just us the consumers who suffer but more about that on another thread methinks!

I won't bore you with too many details but it is interesting especially because Dusty was so heavily involved - well, she would be wouldn't she?

I was ripping, or attempting to rip 'Reputation' for a friend and the blessed drive stuck at track 6 and wouldn't go any further. I tried to play 'Dusty Definitely' and she stuck at track 6 or 7, I tried Alanis Morissette and she did near enough the same as did Meatloaf, as did Phil Collins, as did Carly Simon...........get the picture???????????

Dell teccies in 'hardware' (situated in a call centre some distance from my home ), without doing any troubleshooting told me it was a software issue and duly transferred me to 'software'. Notwithstanding mine is a brand new pc, just a few weeks old, I was told that any help given on the software front was chargeable on the basis that software is volatile (all but two things, Skype and my photo software was pre-installed dell stuff I should add). The costs? Nigh on 55 for this problem, 99 for 6 months (to cover 3 'problems' and so on). Well, I had no choice but to pay up.

My entire system was reinstalled which meant that I lost all my holiday photos off the pc - thankfully duly backed up!. I spent hours and I mean hours on the line with the techician redoing all the necessary.

Guess what? It didn't work and 'software' then said it was probably a 'hardware' fault. Cut to the chase it WAS a hardware fault so they arranged for a courier to come and pick the pc up the following day (I hadn't paid for a fancy support package ).

Well...you've guessed it.....the courier didn't turn up.

However, fingers crossed I'm hoping that its now been sorted. I'll wait a little before I jump up in the air with excitement on that front as I've completely lost confidence in the machine, sad to say.

At Dell's expense they sent an engineer to my home to sort me out on a next working day basis - he arrived and replaced the DVD drive. Whether he is a fan of Dusty's I don't know but he was FORCED to see me playing her, ripping her and ultimately burning her..well, her 'Reputation' that is .

Btw. I also got them to refund the amount I paid for my 'software' support.

Moral of this story..............don't trust a woman who tells you there is nothing wrong with your hardware

I used to use DVD shrink which I had on my earlier computer which operated XP. I used to be able to do a backup and the burn process, all with the DVD shrink program

Since upgrading to a new computer which uses Vista, I then downloaded DVD shrink (a program for copying DVD's). I am now unable to do the burn process in DVD shrink and after having done the backup process, I then have to open Nero and do the burn process from there, just like burning a CD.

It was much simpler with the old DVD shrink.

I had DVD Shrink on my Sony Vaio/XP computer. It seems like it doesn't work on my new Windows.7 computer. Does anyone else have Windows.7? I was told it's very user friendly, not finding it to be so. When I went from Millennium to XP, I had no problems it was a very easy transition, not so with Windows.7.
