Yesterday and today I heard this on the radio, I think it must be a new record by someone as it sounds more modern but I was never close enough to the radio to catch the name.
It was never really a favourite of mine, even in the 60's I thought it sounded dated.

It's by DIONNE BROMFIELD Karl. She's only 13 years old , and is Amy Winehouse's 'god daughter'. This obviously helps her get exposure. The record is on the playlist for Radio 2, and is played between 4-6 times a day. Her album is out (I bought it!) - for it contains several versions of great songs including The Shirelles 'Foolish little girl', Millie's 'My boy Lollipop', Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston's 'Two can have a party', Diana's 'Ain't no mountain high enough', Aretha's 'Until you come back to me', The Marvelettes 'Beechwood 45789' (although they spell it BEACHWOOD ), and a certain lady's 'Am I the same girl'. Forget the Amy Winehouse connection - this girl can sing, AND pick great songs. One to watch.

| Sounds like a great cd Brian, Amy can sing if she gets herself together which doesn't happen often! |

Here you go...GREAT production number, reminiscent of the 60's. Makes me think of something you might have seen on Hullabaloo back than with the back-up singers and dancers all on stage.
Will be interesting to see how this young 13 year old singer matures.

Re the above post, I have been told I sounded rude, well that was not my intention but if anyone feels that way then there is nothing I can do about it.
There are lots of cd/dvd sites and it really is worth checking them out for the best prioe even if you have to wait a month or so.
I just ordered the latest CSI NY dvd's at a fantastic price and they were only released a few months ago so it really is worth hanging on and checking around. |

I heard Mama Said again in the car today and to be honest I think it's dreadful, I also don't like the way she rushes the name Billy Joe, her age is no escuse as Brenda Lee made good records at a yougn age.
Although I am not crazy on the song even early in her career Dusty Dustyfied it and made it better than it actually is, infact as I've said many times before Dusty has on more than one occasion taken I song I didn't care for and made me enjoy her version of it - even some of her own songs like Your Hurtin' Kinda Love, which I don't think I would have bought by anyone other than Dusty but she made it special! |

I always liked the song Mama Said, especially when Dusty sings it. I really enjoyed watching Dionne Broomfield's version because as I mentioned, I think it's a great production number and it just brings me back to the 60's.
Not sure what I actually think of Dionne Broomfield yet, guess only time will tell.

I've had the album for a few days now, and really am quite impressed. Perhaps (most likely!) it's the songs, but it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone so young singing REAL songs and not sounding like Cheryl Cole or any other 2 dozen female artists of today.
