We are losing soldiers almost weekly usually due to bombs etc but this latest one is just sheer murder when a rogue recruit they were training shot dead five soldiers.
Can anyone be trusted in that area?

I was very angry when I heard this news. I have no notion how the families cope - its one thing to put ones life at risk in these circumstances but quite another when life is taken by those you are seeking to help.
One of the gravest mistakes that the international communities involved in these areas seem to make time and again IMHO is to make the assumption that everybody else in the world wants to live their lives according to the ways of 'us'. It is absolutely apparent that 'our' form of democracy (which is different in both the USA and UK anyway!!) won't work in the likes of Afganistan, not least because of the nature of the geography of the country talk about anything else. 'We' are now complicit in a 'corrupt' election, so I'm not sure what that makes 'us'.
How utterly terrible though to be killed by somebody who you are mentoring - the soldiers are doing their duty, its not their fault that so many who they are trying to help don't want that help....... indeed they don't see it as 'help' and why should they? At the risk of repeating myself, who says 'we' are 'right'? Sadly though, so many innocents from all sides are losing their lives.
I have no notion what the outcome will be, such an awful mess has been created in this beautiful world of ours. I often think that Mother Nature made such a huge mistake when she allowed mankind to walk this earth.

Janie I feel quite emotional after reading your post, but you make a lot of sense. The people over there or in many countries for that matter have a different culture and temperament from us, it must be very difficult for our troops and infact any nationality of troops to work in such places.
When you see the pictures of many of the dead soldiers they are so young and it must be heartbreaking for their loved one's.
I also read a few days ago that a solider who was a wizard at de-fusing bombs was killed by a bomb he was trying to de-fuse on his last day of duty there - how very sad and ironic.
You are so right in saying our world is beautiful, buy why do we have so many crazy people living in it? I often think man's worst enemy is man himself!
Why can't they all just live in peace and enjoy the world? |

What both of you have written has made me very teary eyed. Perhaps one of the reasons is because I have heard awful war stories told by my mother all my life. She was in Hungary during WWII and her sisters were all killed in the War by bombs. Wouldn't it be lovely if we all just could get along except each other's differences and there would be no wars. I truly believe that all wars are awful, there should be a better way to settle differences. Sadly, that just isn't reality.

Could you believe such a thing has happened AGAIN?
This time on an American base when a psychiatrist killed 12 people. |
