I've just received the wonderful Hanne Boel's new album
This woman is the 'Danish Dusty' - she has never made a bad record, and this one will no doubt continue her record!
I feel a 'review' coming on......

This morning when I referred to Hanne Boel as being the 'Danish Dusty' I didn't mean she SOUNDED like her - I meant she had superb taste in songs and her albums are faultless in production.
Hanne is quite unique really - the nearest she sounds like a cross between Tina Turner/Ronnie Spector/Bonnie Raitt and Trisha Yearwood !
The new album is called "PRIVATE EYE" and is most probably her 20th release.
This album is different to previous Hanne albums - it's more mid-tempo with less orchestration......however it's a real gem.
Hanne is backed by a band tighter than Dolly Parton in a size 38c - they 'cook' like there's no tomorrow.
The album is a mixture of self penned songs and well known favourites.
Hanne writes a mean song - 'There's an angel' would be a number one if The Rolling Stones recorded it today - very 'Honky Tonk Woman'
What I really like about this album is the strong use of organ and brass - just like the old Stax records.
I will pick the three well known songs - firstly "The ballad of Lucy Jordan", the best thing Marianne Faithful ever recorded. I never thought her version could be bettered, but Hanne does it. She slows the track down considerably, but still manages the 'Faithfull' type vocal. AMAZING
Al Stewart's "Year of the cat" really suits a female vocal. This is most probably the 'rockiest' track on the album giving it 'balls and power' missing from the original - which I liked!! This would make a great single
Last but not least Dylan's "I'll be your baby tonight"
Now this is a GREAT song, and I've liked every version I've heard before, including the reggae version by UB40!, but this is BY FAR AND AWAY THE BEST version I've ever heard. Powerful vocals - great female backing singers and a drummer who's so together Buddy Rich would take up insulting top female singers as a career
Hanne deserves an award for this recording.
The rest of the album is just as good really, despite the songs being 'new' - they sound like future classics.
So that's it then - the Hanne Boel appreciation society speaks again!
Seriously though - I know I go on how great this is..how great that is, but this one IS THE ONE.
I'm not sure if the album has been issued in any other country other than Denmark yet (it only came out there on Monday), but CDWOW have got stocks - and they ship worldwide, so there's no excuse for ignoring me!!!
