Having a problem with anything with a plug, I decided to 'upgrade' from dial-up to broadband. The BT engineer called this morning to install the equipment (modest charge Ģ50!), but my computer turns out to have the 'wrong' windows edition....so............I've been out and purchased a new pc(my current one is about 10 years old)...now I have a brand new model which I don't understand!!!! (The engineer is coming back next week!...wish me luck) Do YOU have these sort of problems?
Brian.

We had to do exactly the same thing as you, Brian...
But you will NOT regret it!..
Broadband opens up an entirely new set of 'opportunities'...
I admit to becoming a YOUTUBE addict!..
So, you will have the new Windows Vista system?
Don't be fooled... I am the original technophobe!...

I don't understand my computer either, but broadband is so much better than dial up!

My computer is a total mystery to me, but I like to explore itīs opportunities. Iīve become a master in try-and-fail-method. What does this button do? Oh, it makes the toolbar disappear! How do I get it back? I donīt know.
Love, Kat

I do that Kat! I made stuff disappear and I don't even know what, and every time I switch the computer on, this box pops up saying it is unable to find something or other, or something has been disabled.. oops. Oh well, it's not broken yet!

I'm lucky because my partner Karen is fabulous with all things IT related. She's been involved in some form of IT for most of her working life, well apart from a wee blip...but we won't even go there.
So if I 'cock up' (that's an 'Wendy technical term' btw) I just smile sweetly and it get's sorted for me

I tried to set up the new computer this morning, but to no avail So I have now contacted a 'PC PROBLEM' firm who hopefully will be able to get an engineer out to me on Sunday (my only day off), and he will set it up for me. In the meantime we are a '2 computer' family - one that works (slowly) - one that looks all shiny but is not even plugged in! - both remind me of aliens ...must go and feed the pigeons

I'm lucky too... I spent the last 10 years in IT dealing with both software & hardware problems and designing & maintaining websites so 'cock ups' are pretty rare!!

Interesting little fact, I've never, in all my years, owned a computer. Really. I post from my husband's work-supplied laptop computer and he usually travels during the week, so I'm computerless five days a week, typically.
I have a phobia of purchasing a computer. I've tried several times... but the computer store is next door to the pet shop... and when I shop I always come home with another critter. Dang it all. It used to be cute... but now it's pathological. I can't buy a computer. GRRRrrr... But I have six fish, two rabbits, three cats, one dog, and a few birds. Argh. I need therapy. And a computer. Grr...

LOL!...THAT is hilarious, Linda.
So, could'nt you ask the Computer store to deposit a PC in a cage, at the Petshop, or something?
.....and congrats, Brian...you'll now wonder why you didn't get broadband ages ago...
Carole... who is slowly being dragged, kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. xx |
