I was wondering if anyone knew which of Dusty's vocals were recorded in the rest room? Were there many? It sounds to me like "Mockingbird" might have been one, there's a fantastic quality to that recording. But I have no idea

I haven't read the Paul Howes book yet ... does that book give insight into that aspect of her recording technique? (Amazon wants me to sell my soul for a copy)

As an aside, I can think of a handful of other artists who have also recorded in the little girls' room

We have no evidence that Mockingbird was recorded in the 'Rest room' Linda.

We do know that she did her own backing to that track.

'I Close my eyes and Count To Ten' was recorded from the stairwell at The Philips Recording studio.

There is a funny story that the cleaners came in, and were amazed to find Dusty singing that song from there..

Corrections to my above post
According to Edward Leesons's book, Dusty found the the recording studio at Marble Arch to be 'dead'..

She recorded in the corridor 'cos here was some 'ambience' to it..and the best place was The Ladies Loo, that was great because it was echoey.' ..

He goes on to say that the 'ambient' sound of 'Some Of Your Lovin' was produced in these surroundings.

'I Close My Eyes' was recorded at the end of a corridor, complete with cleaning ladies!..

'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' was recorded in the stairwell with a microphone dangling in front of her.

Oh!! Lovely, Carole, thank you for doing the research!!

I think the fact that she was dissatisfied with the studio says a lot about her gift for music.

She was way ahead of her time and had such a good ear for sound.
