I was just kind of curious whether Dusty was near-sighted or far-sighted. The reason why, is because you can see in live performances how she interacts with the audience (classic example is all those times during the RAH concert where certain members of the audience would make her laugh). So she obviously could see them well enough... was she wearing contact lenses or was she just far-sighted? I am near-sighted and I know that without my contact lenses in, I could never have seen as far as the front row in that concert hall, it would just be a wall of fuzz, lol.

She was short sighted, I remember reading it sometimes made it easier for her to be on stage when she couldn't see the audience so well Did she ever wear contact lenses later in her career, when better ones had been developed? Maybe she just wasn't that short sighted. I'm short sighted and there's no way I'd be able to get around without glasses or lenses, I can't even see the floor where I'm walking. I'd so get run over.

But how the heck did she manage with the audience then???
I thought I heard/read that she wore contact lenses later in her career, when they were more advanced and not such a royal pain in the arse as the earlier versions of lenses were.

Have you not seen the clip at the start of her career, when she is in her dressing room and the Interviewer asks about her eyesight?
She looks in the mirror from about a metre away and says that she can't see her face clearly.
THAT is bad eysight!...
She couldn't wear contact lenses when she wore ALL that eye-makeup.
Maybe she did later on, when better lenses had been developed, and her liking for TONS of eye-makeup waned.

Yes, I did see that clip, so it confused me even more!

I wonder what the big deal is, in show biz, like, why can't people wear glasses? lol John Denver and John Lennon seemed to pull it off without anyone noticing...

I know that there are a few pics out there of Dusty wearing Specs.
It'd be lovely if any of you can post one, two or even THREE...

I think in strict medical terms,Dusty was "as blind as a bat".
Oh... and there was NO way Dusty was gonna wear glasses out in public.Remember, she felt the NHS spectacles she had to wear as a child were hideous. She wanted to move as far away from 'frumpy, bespectacled Mary'... bit of a no-brainer really.
Thankyou. As you were.
