We've talked about our early memories of tunes...

But, as you were growing up, can you remember the first 'Singer' who impressed you...

I remember loving Pat Boone and his 'April Love' song...

I was verry young, remember!....

Well, that's kind of too bad, because when you start with the best, there's nowhere to go but down...

If I had to pinpoint one specific vocalist it would have to be Anne Murray, who, I don't know if she's a big international star or if she's mainly confined to her Canadian fans.... My Mum would play Anne Murray incessantly and she had such an interesting voice. Also, Karen Carpenter, of course, and yes, the Smurfs intrigued me, at least until I learned that the sound was manufactured.

Billy Fury--Half Way to Paradise
Dusty doing her solo bits in the Springfields.

Just been reading an article about Pat Boone funnily enough.
He was born in 1934 and is a direct descendant of Americam pioneer Daniel Boone.
I used to love Friendly Persuasion.

I suppose it was Tommy Steele, Elvis and Paul Anka, although I do remember Lita Roza!

Karen Carpenter.. I dunno, it's weird, before I "found" Karen I always used to pay more attention to the music, or the melody, rather than the voice. I never realised that before

I liked Peter, Paul & Mary's songs and Motown songs, but The Beatles were the ones who started me pleading with my mom to buy me their records - I was 11 year old at that time.

IOWTBWY was the first single by a female artist that I ever purchased. I thought Dusty's makeup was kinda strange when I saw her on the Ed Sullivan Show, but I loved her voice.

Linda - During the 70s and 80s, I just LOVED listening to Anne Murray. Still do. Love that voice! (Her looks weren't too shabby either, if I may add.) She and Linda Ronstadt were IT for me back then.

On the male side, Roy Orbison was and still is The Voice to me.
Smokey Robinson is right up there, too.

For me it was Connie Francis singing "Among My Souvenirs". I remember in later years when she was in "Where The Boys Are" my late mother thought it was not suitable and forbad me from seeing it. Looking at it now, how tame it was, but not in those days.

I have heard on radio a lady singing "What'll I Do" (the theme tune used in Birds of a Feather), and I could swear that it is Connie Francis, but on checking her website, there is no mention of it in her song listing. Has anyone heard this?

I like P,P & M too TMAK. I went to their concerts whenever they came my way. I even won a radio competition to meet them and have a photo of me and Paul.

I was impressed by the lead singer of Bread, he sounded so sad (and I felt the same about having to go to school in the winter). Karen Carpenter impressed me. You could always understand each and every word she sang. There was also David Bowie. He still impresses me.

I don't know if he was the first to impress me - but I remember my mother played Gene Pitney a lot when I was younger, his voice was so distinctive, I used to love "THe Man Who Shot Liberty Valance".

Growing up in the 80's (), I also remember Susanna Hoffs of The Bangles being quite distinctive - and Fergal Sharkey
