Just proves what great taste Dusty had in music. I love "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Too bad that Dusty never got to record it.
I like Carole Bayer Sager's song too, but I think Dusty would have made a better job of it than Carole B-S. By the way, isn't it strange the way music videos have changed?! When once we were content to see our favourite singer mime their song in front of some persian rugs ( ), now music videos are mini-hollywood-epics....
What other songs did Dusty choose??

Another choice was the extremely touching..'Thats The Way I Always Heard It Would Be' by Carly Simon...
I really felt that Dusty could identify with those lyrics, given her experience of unhappy parents.
Can anyone find this song anywhere?... please.

OOH, Procul Harum I never thought it would be one of Dusty's top ten. It's a great record though.
I can't find the Carly Simon song anywhere, only this cover-version -which gives an idea of the lyrics if you haven't heard Carly Simons single.

I can't do any better than that at the moment Carole.

Thanks for that link, Paul..
See what I mean about the lyrics?
I really believe that Dusty's childhood experiences influenced her life...
As it does us all, of course.
Dusty said the song had a 'timeless' qualtity about it.
For her, I believe it did ..

She always seemed to like Brazilian music. It is interesting about Thats the way I heard it should be--and the link to childhood. Our childhood leaves a lasting impression on our lives and does influence all we do. The lack of confidence and the failure to have long and lasting relationships throughout her life I think stemmed from her childhood.
Anyone got any other thoughts on this and the general choice of songs.
I've found a tape of this prog too amongst all my other tapes!

I think all her choices are excellent - apart from the Carole Bayer-Sager song which I thought was a bit bland.
I love Mas Que Nada too, Dusty sounded great singing Samba. I think she must have loved Latin sounds a lot when you think of some of the songs she recorded/sung; "Who Can I Turn to?" with it's latin beat, "Bring Him Back" which has a very latin-soul feel to it, "Bom Dia" from Dusty..Definitely plus "Who(Will Take My Place)", "Come for a Dream" and "See All Her Faces" "Manha de Carnival" - all of which have bossa-nova arrangements. Maybe she should have moved to Rio de Janiero instead of Los Angeles in the early 70's
I like the Bill Withers song, but I wonder whether it was the lyrics or melody that attracted Dusty - the same goes for the Carly Simon song.
BILL WITHERS lyrics - "Use Me"
My friends feel it's their appointed duty They keep trying to tell me All you want to do is use me Ha, ha, but my answer, ha, ha Yeah, to all that use me stuff Is I wanna spread the news That if it feels this good getting used Oh, you just keep on using me Until you use me up
Until you use me up
My brother, sit me right down And he talked to me, ah-ha He told me, ah-ha That I ought not to let you just walk on me And I'm sure he meant well Yeah, but when our talk was through I-I-I said brother, if you only knew You'd wish that you were in my shoes You just keep on using me Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Oh sometimes, it's true you really do abuse me You get in a crowd of high class people And then you act real rude to me But oh baby, baby, baby, baby When you love me I can't get enough I-I and I, wanna spread the news That if it feels this good getting used Oh, you just keep on using me Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talking about you using me But it all depends on what you do It ain't too bad the way you're using me 'Cause I sure am using you To do the things you do Ah-ha, to do the things you do
I'm intrigued about her other choices.

I somehow, doubt that lyrics didn't mean much to Dusty...
I feel that there are many songs with lyrics which she felt were appropriate to her.
Lets face it, don't MOST of our fave songs mean something 'personal' to us...?
Why would Dusty be any different?
There are one or two other choices which I've not posted yet, Paul.
I'll get back to ya!

Although I think Bill Withers version of 'Use me' is fab, I think if Dusty had heard the version by ESTHER PHILLIPS she would have chosen that one! This version knocks spots of ANY other version of the song.

The blast of Tina is a good way of rounding up the choices.
