...She has written some very 'telling' lyrics hasn't she?
'Thats the way I always heard it should be'
'Coming Round Again'.(Love this one)
'Your'e So Vain'
Very 'down to earth' lyrics and you can't help but wonder if they were based on her own experiences.
A very talented lady.

You're so vain I believe was written about Warren Beattie--so the story goes. Yes, her lyrics are interesting and catch the attention. Her voice ain't bad either.

Yea, I think James Taylor and Mick Jagger were candidates for the 'Your'e so Vain' subject as well.
I think it was probably Warren Beatty though.

Carly Simon is another one of those artists that I didn't know I knew until I started digging around, thanks to satelite radio and youtube. I think she's awesome, but don't know much about her personal life. She's a fantastic lyricist. I mean, when a song actually makes you stop and think of the logic behind it (like "You're So Vain"), it's worth investigating... lol

Yes, You're So Vain is a very wonderful song. You're right...it's about Warren Beattie. I think Mick Jagger is one of the background singers. Great.
She also made the song for a movie of James Bond (I think it was The Spy Who Loved Me). The song was called Nobody Does It Better.

Excellent LP was 'you're so vain'. I particularly liked the track 'His friends are more than fond of Robin'. Carly sings with such clarity and ease, I was surprised at myself liking this kind of music as at the time I would hardly listen to anything other than Motown and Soul!
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead, Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend. |

The song was called Nobody Does It Better.
You may be interested to know S.Pepper, that Dusty was offered this song, but refused it, on the grounds of the words being overly 'suggestive'.....
So, what d'ya think of that?

I wondered why Dusty never did a Bond song - everyone else did."Nobody Does It Better" is a great song. I thought Dusty paid no attention to lyrics.
Carly Simon was born rich. The Simon in Simon & Schuster, the publishers, was her father. Her sister, Lucy, is an opera singer. Carly was beset by stage fright almost all her career, hence the infrequent recordings.

That's certainly the story FN isn't it? BUT I guess, being the artist she was, if the words appeared offensive or just not what she felt comfortable with, then she would take note and not progress with the recording? .

Ha! Did she really say that? Haha...Great!
A Dusty-Version of that Carly-Bond theme would have been a great thing but I am not the greatest fan of that song. Hope you know what I mean.
