I'd forgotten all about this Lady until we discussed the Bond themes. ..and the soundtrack 'For Your Eyes Only'..
Sheena Easton was one of those performers who didn't really make it BIG in the UK, but was a resounding 'Hit' in the US...
Quite an unusual phenomena..
The last I saw of her was when she sang a duet with Prince, ages ago.
Can anyone give us an update?
Has she retired gracefully, or what?

I actually saw Sheena Easton perform live in Las Vegas on the 21 June 2000! What a memory I have! . She was going strong at that point anyway but I haven't heard anything about her since .
AND she sang 'For Your Eyes Only' but of course it would have been strange if she hadn't one supposes .
I do know (leastways I read about it ), that she made a lot of money from property out in the States

Sheena Easton recorded her best material with Prince. Until that, she was a rather lucky girl who had a few commercial pop records in the UK, mainly due to being 'discovered' on Esther Ranzen's programme 'That's Life' (I think!)...or perhaps a spin off programme called 'The Big Time'. Anyway she had a big hit here with 'Morning train(9 to 5)', but when Prince took her under his wing her career took off with a bullet - especially in the USA. She became a millionairess very quickly due to her massive record sales there. You don't hear much of her nowadays - perhaps she's still counting her money?! A case of not what you know - it's WHO you know. However, she wasn't a bad singer. Brian |

I think she said that she was through with recording, but I know she tours a little bit.

I'm sure I have some video, where Dusty is answering questions put to her by Sheena Easton, When Sheena was just a wannabe..
Can anyone confirm that this happened?

No, I haven't..
I was just checking the Paul Howes Book when I saw this:
July 1980
The Big Time: Sheena Easton: The Making Of A Star:
Dusty Springfield Gives Advice To Sheena Easton.
Rather ironic the way things worked out...

Hey everyone, Carole's having a conversation with herself.
Wow, yes, it really is ironic. Thanks for digging up that information!

I recall the 'Big-time' programme with Sheena, but I'm sorry to say I don't remember Dusty on it, but I do remember Dorothy Squires giving her advice, telling her "I hope your first record isn't a success, because it'll make you work harder", Sheena replyed "I'm now even more determined to make it"
Would 'they' have asked two famous singers for their advice?

Of course the big difference is that Sheena didn't rail against the Las Vegas route as Dusty did. I still struggle with what Dusty really wanted to do at the time when Vegas would have been a 'natural' step to take (or at the very least an option foe her)......it might not have been sufficiently challenging or whatever, but at least it would have kept Dusty's career afloat at an otherwise lean time.

Dusty showed me that interview with Sheena on RSG. When she was showing me things she did. This was over at Fred Perry's house the first time I met him. In fact she sang as Tears Go By. Dusty said she shouldn't do that to me and she should get her nose fixed. I said you didn't say that, she said yes she did. Love Teda xx

Well, at the risk of starting world war three here........I really think there's not a lot of advice that our Dusty could have given Barbra .
btw I have a notion or is it a noseion that Ms Easton did have a nose job. So who knows whether that was down to Dusty or not?!!! It can only get worse folks!!

Yes it would. Like nodes on the vocal cords. When you sing a certain way if you take them off its all different. I don't have nodes but if I got them I wouldn't take them off. Cuz I got my voice a certain way that I like. My throat Doctor is best friends with the Doctor who did Julie Andrews and he told him not to do the operation on her. Now I don't know if she had cancer cuz I didn't ask him. I think she had nodes. Pretty voices you shouldn't touch. You should leave your throat and nose alone. Timi Yuro had throat Cancer. What a lost, what a voice. Love Teda xx
