Hi All, I am pleased to discover a forum dedicated to Dusty Springield. She really brings back memories for me. I love all her music but particularly touching for me is the very poignant and haunting song ' Goin Back' . It's beautiful. I have not read Dusty's biography yet, but I shall definately be searching it out while I am on holiday.

Welcome aboard Pearl!......yes, I always feel a little sentimental when hearing 'Goin' back', though my own Schooldays, well, the Secondary School ones anyway were a five year long living Nightmare!
"and live my days, instead of counting my years" is the line in that song that hits me.....just taking one day at a time in life, as you never know what's round the corner....

First of all: Welcome to the site Poesy (nice nickname!)
Yes Going back was surely one of the most important songs in Dusty's life. If you're interested - here is some other information I found (in the Simply Dusty Box Set) about this song:
"Going Back" was released in July 1966 but it was miracle that Dusty ever got to record the song at all. The lyrics had originally been written by Gerry Goffin for a man but it was only after a 'pulled' version by Goldie (of the Gingerbreads) that he adapted them for Dusty to sing. It was also a song Carole King had wanted to save for herself. Nevertheless Dusty did record it and King is on record as saying that Dusty is the only other person who has ever made it worth while. Dusty's reaction to Carole King's approval was: 'coming from her, I just think is the best - there couldn't be anything better'. The song was perhaps not the most obvious choice with shich to follow a number one hit but it certainly paid off and gave Dusty a ten week stay in the charts, peaking at #10. Despite its UK success, Goin' Back was never released as a single in the States."
Anyway - crying because of a Dusty song? All the time! I remember crying because of Chained to a Memory in particular! But all in all everybody has a different Dusty song to cry with... They change all the time, you know!
However I'm glad to see you on the site and looking forward to your posts!
Love, Vera |
