A nice surprise when I turned on the telly last night to see the RAH concert being televised on our cable network's Ovation channel. Even though I have the DVD it was good to see. It is being shown throughout the month for those of you in Oz who have cable and are yet to see this great concert!

I still can't credit how in heavens name the TV people over here haven't given more time over to Dusty. This is typical of me because I can't remember most of the pertinent detail about what I'm about to say but the point is valid! Some while ago, one of the channels over here did a series of programmes on our major sixties female singers. I can't be certain but I am fairly sure it was before Dusty left us. Lulu, Cilla, Sandie were all featured, but not a word about Dust. At the time I remember thinking how strange is that? Of course, there may have been reasons why it wasn't possible - these things are always more complicated than us mere mortals reckon they are! Interesting, nonetheless...

Janie, I have a vague recollection reading about the show you mention in the DS Bulletin. I think it was being produced at a time when Dusty had fallen ill again and therefore could not take part in the series. When I get a cahance I'll try and look it up!!

I recall the series you're referring to Janie, it started off with Cilla, then Sandie, Marianne F, Lulu all with their own programmes, I recollect a segment of other 'Britgirls' with archive footage in the final programme, Dusty was shown and talked of but no interview for the sad reasons we now know. I think it was the series was shown in '98

I checked out the DSB and what Mark has stated is correct. Dusty was too ill to take part but most of the last programme on Britgirls was about Dusty, but without recent interviews. Paul also mentioned in the DSB article that a magazine at the time stated that Dusty was not included because her demands were too excessive. Don't know how truthful that is!

Thanks for prodding my memory banks Mark and Jenny. I appreciated there would have been reasons for the non-inclusion. I somehow felt that the omission in some ways devalued the entire series bearing in mind Dusty was by far the biggest female star of that era we had. (I feel quite safe in saying that last comment on a Dusty Springfield forum!)
Thanks again
