I agree that Stevie Wonder deserves a thread all to himself.
He has got to be one of the all time great singer song writers.
The guy has so much talent.
I could listen to him all day.

So what are you favourite Stevie songs?

Well, the album "Innervisions" was one of the first ever vinyl albums i bought when i got myself a proper music system. There may be none of Stevie's more famous singles on it but Rolling Stone has it at no. 23 in their 500 best albums of all time.

The album is also more musically ambitious than anything Wonder had attempted before. "Too High," the album's opener, has a buoyant, jazzy feel with a subtly complex interaction between instruments and vocals. "Livin' for the City" is a story-song with a stomping beat, gospel flavor, and a dramatic interlude and outro. The churning "Higher Ground" segues into the fierce, slinky groove of "Jesus Children of America" (complete with burbling Arp and Moog synthesizers). The intensity of these songs is not mitigated by the slower songs, which are equally stirring, but by the exuberant, Latin-esque "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing," one of the album's highlights. From beginning to end, INNERVISIONS is a work of genius--a powerful, complex, yet accessible pop masterpiece.

Sample some of the sublime songs here

It is one of the most difficult things in the world to chose a favourite Stevie track....there are SO many.
From 'Hey harmonica man' through 'I was made to love her', 'Uptight', 'Signed sealed delivered (I'm yours)', 'Sir Duke', 'Masterblaster (jammin)', 'I wish', 'Never had a dream come true', 'Travelin' man', 'Happy birthday', 'Never dreamed you'd leave in summer', 'Lately' and his biggest worldwide smash, the slightly 'sickly' 'I just called to say I love you'. Then of course there are the brilliant albums 'A tribute to Uncle Ray', 'Talking book', 'Innervisions', Fullfillingness first finale' etc etc.
Stevie is one of the worlds GREATS...and always will be.
Personally I tend to prefer his early stuff, and the period in the seventies when he made his most creative recordings.
If I had to pick a top 5 they would be :-
Sir Duke
I wish
I was made to love her
Signed sealed delivered (I'm yours)
and his version of 'We can work it out' (THAT was one hell of a 'cover')

I'm a big Stevie fan, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fullfillingness' First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life are all brilliant albums. My all-time favourite Stevie song is probably this:

I believe (When I fall in love it will be forever)

Favorite Stevie song: "Superstition"
Favorite Stevie album: Innervisions

Did you know that on the back of the album cover of Red Rose Speedway there's a message in Braille from Paul and Linda McCartney: "We love you, Stevie"

I didn't know that! That's fantastic.

I can't possibly pick a favourite Stevie Wonder song. The man is larger than life, and still doing his thing... I saw him on a TV spot a week or two ago, I can't remember which program... maybe Oprah? Always amazing.

By some spooky coincidence, as I walked into the Supermarket, earlier, what should be the music playing?

Stevie Wonder and his 'Cherie Amore'...The essence of fabness..

I just love everything Stevie has recorded.
Its so difficult to pick individual tracks.

The braille message is lovely--I didn't know that before.

My Cherie Amore is guaranteed to brighten any day.
Superstition is wonderful
Lately
I never dream you'd leave in summer are so well written and are so sad.
Then one get up lifted by I was made to love her, You are the sunshine of my life, For once in my life, and Yester me etc.

The album Songs in the key of life is so good.

The only song I'm not too keen on is --I just called to say I love you--abit too sugary

I don't like that song either! I also don't like the song he did with Paul McCartney- "Ebony and Ivory".

I know our Brian didn't love it, but I really enjoy his latest album A Time To Love.

I like Stevie's uptempo and funky stuff such as 'Livin' for the City', 'Sir Duke', 'Boogie on reggae woman', 'Superstition', etc; but I'm not to keen on his ballads which is unusual as I normally like ballads....power ones especially!

Does anyone have the album/CD 'Secret life of Plants' ?, I'm thinking of getting it, it was a bit of a flop when first released on vinyl, but I've read since that it sounds much, much better on CD.....(probably coz you don't have to flip 4 sides!)

I have Secret Life of Plants on vinyl. I liked it at the time, but haven't listened to it for years. It's definitely not on the uptempo and funky side, so you may not like it as much as some of his others, Mark.

Now that you've brought it up, I may finally get it on CD myself, because I love his slower stuff when it's good.

I got this on CD this week and am so glad I did. I forgot how much I liked it. I also bought Hotter Than July on CD and I like it a lot more than I did in 1980.

Go Stevie!
