Last night I couldn't get a connection to the Internet ...and later on,unbelievably, my mobile broke as well.
Now, I know what its like to live on a desert island.
What did we ever do without these brilliant means of communication?..
Anyone remember?..

I have a mobile phone, but use it sparingly. I just don't see the need to have that thing attached to me ear, 24/7.

Glad you're back, Carole! It's weird how stuff all happens at once. Brian, I think you should get a mobile, I thought the same, and didn't get one for ages cos they can be so annoying, but they are really useful for getting in touch with people when you need to and couldn't otherwise. And you can always switch it off if it's annoying you If you get pay as you go you only need to get credit when you need it. I don't use mine that much and the one I have now is only my second one ever, and I still can't figure out how to text properly on it But it's so important to me, not because of the phone, but it takes short videos, and when I first got it I recorded my cat Twinkle playing only a few days before she died, so I'd be devastated if I lost it. Does anyone know how to get pics and videos from phones onto the computer?

do you have bluetooth on the phone? if yes, then buy a bluetooth thing for your computer (less than £10 from argos) and then transfer it onto there
I rarely use my phone, texting mainly.

I have bluetooth on my phone, and I bought a disc thingy from the O2 shop but I couldn't figure it out There is a bluetooth icon thingy on the computer but I don't get it. I'll try and find the instructions again tonight and try again. Or I'll try the Argos thing. Thanks Matt

Often when Richard travels he takes the computer with him for 4 or 5 days, and the worst part of being without the internet is when I need to find information on something that, in my opinion, can't really wait. Things like, my kid just ate some pebbles, is he going to die... you know, and I have to remember how to gather information without the convenience of googling it.
I don't have a cell phone because it has remained on my "things I hate to buy" list.
Last week during a wind storm (no rain, STILL no rain ) the power went out so I had no TV or music, and I couldn't cook anything. I found THAT to be extremely aggravating. Or when the water is shut off, that's frustrating too. Which is ironic because I just returned from a camping trip with no electricity and running water or phones or internet access. Though this time I chose to deprive myself of it.

Yes, its different when you choose to do something rather than when its forced upon you.
I think 'Extremely aggravating' is a very low key response to all that deprivation Linda!.. I am impressed!
We have got to be having your share of rain.
It is raining here 24/7, at the moment.
They are calling it our 'Lost Summer'...How sad is that?

I finally bought a cell phone in April - something I have put off doing for years. The only reason I broke down and got one was cuz I am often out and about for work and can't locate a working payphone when I need to call the bakery (or home). I got it prepaid and have hardly put a dent in my $100 worth of minutes. Most of the people I care to yack with, I can reach via IMs or emails.

Ooh! Ooh! I am making giant strides into the 21st century lately. Last week, I bought a Sansa MP3 player - which is about the size of a thin cigarette lighter. It has the capacity for approx 1000 songs - plus an FM radio receiver AND the capability to download pictures. Sounds terrific, too!

Tere, do you hook up your MP3 to a regular stereo? I don't know the first thing about MP3 players.
Good luck with the scanner, Carole.

So far, I've discovered that I can hook it up to my PC and a new clock radio that I bought, which has a port for connections of this sort. I've downloaded almost 40 CDs worth of songs from my PC to the MP3 so far, and still have room for about 400 more songs.

I sometimes try to remember what is was I did with my freetime before I had a PC!......probably watched more TV than I do now, I know the House was much cleaner!
As for Mobile Phones I did have one that I basically just used for emergencies and I don't know that many people anyway so it was hardly chat, chat, chat!......a few months ago it seemed to stop working, it flashed 'sim' then a number on the screen and that was it, and I'm not technically minded so I don't know wassup......I might treat myself to one for Christmas (and that's only about 22 weeks away!) but I'd rather spend any spare brass on CD's to be totally honest!
