You may remember that on Dusty's birthday this year, a reporter from the Guardian met a group of us at Henley to gather info for an article he was writing? My understanding is that the article was to cover a number of sites of interest with some link to the world of music....and Dusty's marker at Henley was one such site!!

Well, at long last the article is to see the light of day. For those of us in sunny England.....

GO OUT AND BUY THE GUARDIAN on Saturday 4 August

Lets hope we get a good spread .

Sounds interesting!......I don't normally buy the Guardian....ain't it a Socialist paper?.....hmmm, but I'll buy it this time!

On the subject of weekend papers in the Sunday edition of the Daily Mail there's a Bananarama CD, with the original recordings, to celebrate the fact they're back together!

All papers are nasty, but at least it's not far right racist crap like the daily mail.

Well, Andrew did say that he had to pare it down several times to make it fit.
I hope we get to see some of the many pictures Andy took.

I must admit Tere I was a bit disappointed in terms of photos in particular - I clearly thought the article wouldn't be anywhere near as extensive as we might have liked because Dusty's shrine was one of many in the article, after all. However, when I think of the number of rolls of film that the photographer used I cannot really credit that the only photo was the somewhat bland one of the site, taken from a distance at that!

Ah well, I think we could have saved the Guardian a fortune and done the piece ourselves - no disrespect to Andrew and Andy intended of course......as a journalist it must be SO frustrating to spend all that time on a project........I wonder if we might be able to suggest to him that Dusty could easily have a feature of her own? Well, the TV does spin offs, so why not the Weekend mags?!!!

Well, maybe we DID inspire him, Janie. We'll have to keep "reminding" him. And, yes, that was one disappointing picture.

The photo they used makes the gravesite look so lonely. I think this one really shows the spirit of the day ~

I must admit that I found the article okay but the pics poor.

"String of hits in the 60's but not much thereafter"--is a bad comment though considering the good 70's stuff and the comeback music of the late 80's and 90's.

I dislike the Daily mail as much as Sara, along with quite a few other newspapers. (I think the Guardian is way the best)

That said, i know many lovely people that read newspapers i don't like, so maybe newspapers don't always say anything about who's reading it

I was at a meeting awhile back when some disparingly referred to "Guardian readers", of which i'm proud to be one. I'm sure they thought we're all raving lefties.

P.S. The revolution will be next Thursday

"String of hits in the 60's but not much thereafter"

To be honest, up until 2004, this is how I would have described her career, too. I hadn't heard any new Dusty songs following SOAPM until I heard her voice on the Pet Shop Boys' WHIDTDT. Then, nothing more.

But, then again, I was out on the West Coast of the US and playing Navy overseas, where Andrew was living in the UK during this time. I guess talking with us must have opened his eyes (and ears).

I don't want this to come out wrong..
But I wish he hadn't said that about the lesbian thing, when he said he might have thought it were her work, her music, that was the source of her attraction, were it not for the simple fact that most of the women there were lesbians... It's like he's saying the main reason people like her is because she may have been gay, and not for her great voice and music. That pisses me off a lil bit. Of course there will be a few fans who think like that, but not the majority!
I doubt that's how Dusty would want be remembered.
I just think she would rather be famous for her work, than for part of her personal life. And when it's brought up in every single article, it's not fair to her.
I just don't want her to be known only as "that famous gay singer", when she really should be known simply as one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Ever.
