Could I ask Linda if you particularly wanted this album or simply the 'collection' of recordings? If its simply the latter PM me and we'll see what we can do!

I'm sure I didn't pay that much for it! I think I got it from amazon u.k, but it might have been HMV, I can't remember. But it's a great CD! I'll try and look for it for ya.

Thanks. Ideally, Janie, I'd like the actual released CD. I've been itching to listen to "Song For You" and "I Only Wanna Laugh", I haven't heard Dusty's versions yet. I can't even get the amazon sound clips to work on my new computer because this system doesn't support realplayer.... or rather, I haven't figured out a way to successfully install it. Hopefully I'll get lucky soon and find one with a good price.
The CD lists 24 tracks... is that the original track list or have some been added as bonuses on the CD release? 24 tracks on vinyl sound like an awfully packed record to me.
I love admitting my ignorance.

Its a compilation CD, released in 1999 I think (gonna check) mostly tracks from 'Dusty Definitely' and 'See All Her Faces' and some previously unreleased ones. Dusty's version of 'A Song For You' was never finished or released so it's only a rehersal vocal (I think).. 'I Only Wanna Laugh' is on 'Dusty Definitely' and it rocks!

Ah, thanks. I thought it had been released in the eighties on vinyl, but now I'm just that much smarter... LOL
My "Dusty in Memphis" CD is as you described, a cardboard case with a little booklet, incidentally. The American cover.

Dusty In London's the same as that It's a compilation of the stuff she recorded in the UK, around the Memphis time, before and after, that hadn't been released in America.

<--- asking more dumb questions
Why wasn't this material made available in North America until much later?

When Dusty signed with Atlantic Records in the U.S. - part of the deal was that Atlantic had access to the recordings she made for Philips Records (with whom she was still signed in the U.K. and who continued to market her work everywhere outside the U.S.) - and vice-versa. But from when she signed with Atlantic, they never released any of her U.K. recorded work in America (I can't think of any at the moment)from 1968 onwards, and by the time she'd released herself from her Atlantic contract and signed with ABC-Dunhill she'd pretty much stopped recording in the U.K. - so most of the recordings she had made between 1968 to 1972 in the U.K. had never been released in the U.S. until Rhino put together the 'Dusty in London' compilation.
Hope that helps to explain (I may not be 100% correct about everything )

Sounds good though! Seriously Paul, thanks for this. You normally find there is a reason for something happening or not, as the case may be. The fact that she seemed to go through record contracts like they were going out of fashion at a certain phase in her career certainly seems to have had a very negative effect on what was/wasn't released on both sides of the pond. I still can't get over the fact that it took so long for 'Longing' (excuse the pun)to be aired but then only in the US of A in the ABC Dunhill Collection, 'Beautiful Soul'. Crazy.

Wow, that's really interesting. Thanks for the explanation, Paul.
I've never quite understood why Dusty did so much label-hopping, aside from the cross-continent factor.

I absolutely love 'I Only Wanna Laugh' especially the start of it.
Quality singing and orchestration.
Thanks for the links J!
