In these days of supposed equal opportunities for everyone.
I'm wondering if there are any jobs you can think of, that couldn't be done by both sexes.
...and if there are some... what are they?...

Midwifery?.....I've never heard of a Male Midwife!
Hod carrying/general labouring on a building site....any women do that?
Live-in Nanny.....can't quite see a Family requesting a Male one!
I see a young woman regularly working on a Dustcart....I personally wouldn't fancy humping smelly rubbish into a cart, but she seems happy enough when I see her!

One of our friends qualified as a midwife late last year and she was telling us that there were two guys on her course. So if all went to plan they should be qualified now too.
We've also got a friend who worked as a labourer on a building site to help fund her uni course. She also been a truck/van driver. She now works in IT but is a Sgt training cadets in her part time. |

Right now around here there's a big controversy over the recent hiring of a man as executive director of a battered women's & children's shelter. Nobody denies his qualifications, but many are questioning the positioning of a man as the voice for women & children who have been hurt by men.

That seems a stupid idea, to say the least!.. 
Sometimes qualifications count for more than they should do.
Abit of common sense wouldn't go amiss, sometimes...
...Especially, amongst those that do the hiring and firing!...

Football (even though it's crappy and boring anyway).
And you don't see that many female bus drivers or taxi drivers, not round here anyway..
I can't think of anything that couldn't be done by both though.

I've been thinking about this since i saw Linda's post. As usual, my mind comes up with no definitive answer, but that's okay 'cos it's my mind and i'm used to it 
I definitely think that men should be involved in this work, it seems to me the same as white people being involved in the civil rights movement. If you've ever seen Fried Green Tomatoes, there's not a person born that hates the Frank Bennett's of this world more than i do.
I do question whether Executive Director is the right position for a man though. In a way i hope the doubters (which include me i suppose) are proved wrong because it will mean success. If it's not working i hope it's realised soon. It's the results that count.

I've seen such jobs advertised in the UK, Linda. Over here charitable organisations which benefit only one sex are allowed to "lawfully discriminate" as they call it, by only hiring people of the same sex. I don't see anything wrong in this and it's always made clear in the advertisement for the job. |

Father Christmas?.....is there such a thing as 'Mother' Christmas?!!
Personal Secretary?.....don't most Exec's, male and female, prefer a female Secretary to take notes, make Coffee, greet clients, etc;?
