I have just finished listening to the 'Dusty in Memphis' programme on Radio 2, which was absolutely fabulous!
The interviews with the people connected with the album were so interesting (even VW!)...they all conveyed the true feeling of love they had for the album. Especially Jerry Wexler who is such a talented man and most probably one of the greatest music producers of all time.
Listening via my digital box through the tv, the album sounded SO FRESH and WONDERFUL.
To hear Dusty singing 'Give me time' with the music removed was just incredible...I wish we all had the ability to do that!
BBC - AT IT'S VERY BEST

I agree with all you say Brian --it was truly great and for once they ALL did Dusty proud.
The Give me Time bit was brilliant.
For anyone who missed it , catch it on line --you will not be disappointed.

Totally agree with Brian's comments, this was a really good programme.
The section with the musc removed from 'Give Me Time'was just brilliant.

Don't forget to listen to 'Friday Night Is Music Night',should be another good evening's radio....much better than TV !!!

Bye Pete.

Thanks Carole

I just checked out your link and as yet it doesnt look like the link has been created yet for the show. It was broadcasted just over three hours ago so i guess it'll take some time.

Besides Jerry Wexler, Vicki 'the traitor' Wickham, and some of the musicians present during the recording who else contributed to the interviews? CAN'T WAIT TO LISTEN TO IT!!!!!

Neil

You can now use the 'Listen Again' button from the BBC Radio Two website...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/index.shtml?logo

Don't be alarmed to hear Petula Clark at the beginning, it's a trailer and competition for Petula's forthcoming concert! :)

PS - Listening to Dusty's vocals without any musical accompaniment, or even reverb, was quite beautifully chilling (if there can be such a thing). I found it quite moving...

I found the 'Give Me Time' snippet very moving too David...To hear Dusty's voice raw and WITHOUT any backing or reverb was quite an intimate moment wasn't it?..

She alway makes me think--God is she going to make it and of course she always does.
This snip of her singing without backing etc. made me think that all the more!

It sent shivers down my spine. The sound quality was great and there was a bit of build up by Gary Moore: "Now this is what it sounds like without the backing tape" etc. The anticipation made you hold your breath, and in the end it was almost like she was in the room with you.

Listened to it on my DAB Radio - the sound quality was superb.

Top marks to Radio 2 for producing some great pop documentaries
this year.

Fab programme wasn't it...
I was wondering though, it had been said that there would be 'New insights/comments' about it from Dusty...I didn't notice anything new.. Did anyone else?...or do you think that they were taking about the 'raw' 'Give Me Time'?...
GOT IT!...It was the part when she was talking about receiving the Platinum Disc for Preacher Man...She thought it was something she'd ordered from a Catalogue....HOW cute can you get?..

I'm hoping that they have enough copies of DIM in all the shops etc, this week.Just in case this prog has created new interest.

Cxx

Just an amusing additional thought...Thank Gawd they DIDN'T call it 'Dusty In 'Mussel Shoals'!!

They said on the lead in to the programme that it was an interview that had never before been heard on British radio! Not quite the same thing as 'new' material. The interview about receiving the platinum disk is very very similar to the one she gave for the Clive Anderson TV programme and she has also related that story on other interviews -the speaking voice was certainly of that era IMHO (1995ish).
