Hi everyone! Hope everyones well. I can;t believe its Friday AGAIN. The weekend is nearly upon us.

I don't know about you guys but after watching the induction video clip I thought it was a bit of a let down. It was fantastic that people like Tom Jones, Jerry Wexler, Cilla Black, Burt Bacharach, Martha Reeves and Patti LaBelle participated but some of the contributors I had never heard of!!!!

Besides the contributors above who were good choices I wonder if it would have made a much more fitting tribute if .for example, the following people were able to say a few words:

Carole King, Elton John, Randy Newman, Richard Carpenter, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Annie Lennox, Chrissy Hynde, Pat Rhodes, Douggie Reece, Dionne Warwick, The Pet Shop Boys....friends, contemporaries and peers.

Obviously it would require some hard work logistically to make this happen but if the Music Hall of Fame is as prestigious as it want to be viewed by the British public and music industry then I feel the video tribute should have been better researched and created.

Besides Dusty I do think the other tribute videos could have been far, far better packaged.

If anyone can remember the first year the whole Hall of Fame began the whole format of the show was different but the video tributes had a great documentary style feel with performance clips and tributes from other singers unique to each performance act.

These video tributes were quite lengthy (maybe each ten - fifteen minutes long if I remember rightly) compared to last nights effort but very well put together! The tributes were shown prior to the actual induction ceremony where as this year the audience was all there with the inductees watching the videos which would have created major time constraints.

At the end of the day I am very grateful that Dusty finally has received the kind of long overdue recognition that she deserved but I still wonder if the whole format and workings of the Hall Of Fame still isnt quite right.

We are talking about the UK Music of Hall of Fame here folks, so as a rule or constitution I think that each year if the organisation continues to honour seven inductees as it did this year five inductees should be BRITISH ONLY and the two remaining, INTERNATIONAL artists.

There should be one television programme aired before the actual induction ceremony where (my preferred!) documentary style tributes are screened on Channel Four. This programme could be two hours long which including commercial breaks should allow ten-fifteen minute tributes for each act.

Then a week or day later the actual ceremony could be shown where each artist is inducted one at a time. With no video tributes shown they can take more time with their speeches and afterwards perform a song or two of their choice. Obviously if one artist is no longer with us then a tribute band can be used and a friend, family member or work associate can accept the award on their behalf as we done for Dusty this year.

Ok, I think thats it.

Didn't think my posting would be this long. Hope I havent bored the pants off you lot. Have a good weekend everyone.

RANT OVER!

Neil

I think your suggestions carry alot of merit, Neil..

I've not watched the previous HOF inductions, but I also thought that the video clips weren't really appropriate for a live audience who were all 'hyped up' to see their particular fave..so wouldn't give them a great deal of attention.

Yes, I think they could have been slightly more imaginative with their choices of interviewees, but at least we got CILLA and not LULU!...

I do agree wholeheartedly a doco/interview on/with each one of the inductees prior to the big night would be more appropriate...and would make it more special...

Lots of good points there Neil!...

It's hard to know what to say to that one, Neil! In large part, I do declare I agree with you. As I've said elsewhere I thoroughly enjoyed the actual evening on a number of different levels, one of which being the obvious - Dusty's recognition. However, I had hoped for a tighter moe polished production. In comparison with many other awards ceremonies, the way it came over on the TV did seem to me to lack something in the production compartment. I know your focus was on the video clips Neil, but I think they were just part and parcel of this production issue. Of course, I know absolutely nothing about these things other than from an ordinary punters perspective so I may be talking a load of tosh. I must admit as well that I don't particularly think Dermot O'Leary was a suitable choice as a presenter - I think he's too lightweight...alright for Big Brother but. I guess its just 'cos I'm getting old.
As a point of comparison, what happens re the US equivalent?

Janie xx

p.s. One thing that did strike me with the tributes on the video clips was that m some of the contributors appeared on more than one. Makes sense in one respect but for e.g. Tom Jones on the Dusty one, because he appeared elsewhere could have been replaced with one of the many stars you've noted above Neil.
