Finally saw this today! Loved it. I saw the original on Broadway with Jennifer Holliday and the film definitely gets the excitement of the stage version across. It looks great, the performances are great, and I think you will all enjoy it very much!
I'm so excited I'm going to post this on both Dusty boards. Go see it.

'Dreamgirls' was an awesome soundtrack album with Jennifer Holiday.
I thought at the time she would become a major star, but it was not to be. Whatever happened to her?

She made a pop album way back when. I bought it, but didn't like it at all. It was overproduced, generic, bland, very disappointing.
Eventually she lost a lot of weight, and occasionally toured in productions of Dreamgirls (I saw one of these touring productions, but it just wasn't the same). That's all I know. I'm sure we'll hear more about what she's been doing now that this movie is out.
I enjoyed all of the performances in the movie. Eddie Murphy is surprisingly good, and of course Jennifer Hudson is the break out star.
Get the movie soundtrack, too! It's different from the Original Cast album and well worth having.

He certainly scrubbed up well as a female didn't he???..and he has some kinda voice!

Carole he's one of the stars of Brokeback Mountain, the movie that came out last year about the two cowboys who have an affair with each other. Hence the appreciative gay cowboys in the audience!
