...that 'Goin Back was also recorded by Sixties Group..The Byrds of 'Mr Tambourine Man' fame....

Here are the lyrics as sung by THEM...
Ever so slightly different:

Goin' Back

Written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin

I think I'm goin' back
To the things I learned so well in my youth
I think I'm returning to
Those days when I was young enough to know the truth
Now there are no games
To only pass the time
No more electric trains
No more trees to climb
But thinking young and growing older is no sin
And I can play the game of life to win

I can recall a time
When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
Now I think I've got
A lot more than just my toys to lend
Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
But every day can be
A magic carpet ride
A little bit of courage is all we lack
So catch me if you can, I'm goin' back

La la la la la, etc.
Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
But every day can be
A magic carpet ride
A little bit of courage is all we lack
So catch me if you can, I'm goin' back

La la la la, etc.

I like the Byrds, but their version comes nowhere close to Dusty's interpretation. I always thought the arrangement and instrumentation on the Byrds version was at odds with the lyric......maybe it's hard to accept another version of the song after you've heard Dusty's
MASTERPIECE!!!!!

Anyone heard Goldie & the Gingerbreads version?????

Paul.

Thanks for that, Janie!.....

UNDERwhelming isn't it?...

So, Paul, are you gonna 'produce' Goldie and The Gingerbread's version out of the hat??

Unfortunately I can't produce Goldie & the Gingerbreads "Goin' Back" out of a hat. I think the record was 'pulled' soon after it was released - so there's probably not many copies of it around. I think it's on a cd compilation of Goffin/King songs though.......

You'll have to make do with a photo of Goldie & the Gingerbreads

I had heard the Byrds version of Goin back before and have never liked it. It doesn't seem to suit their singing style.
Must admit I've never heard Goldie and the Gingerbreads version though and probably never will now!!

There are two other excellent versions of 'Goin' back' by Elkie Brooks and the FABULOUS Renee Geyer(from Australia)
Both are worth a listen.

Thanks for the recommendations Brian.BOTH of those ladies are EXCELLENT singers.

Goin' back to Goldie and The Gingerbreads...Did you know that at least two of them lived in the same block of flats as Dusty, in 1965?....ie ..Westbourne Terrace, Paddington, area.

They had one hit record here in the UK, it was called 'Can't You Hear My Heart Beat' which reached no.25 in the charts in Feb 1965...

If you are curious about that tune, I have posted 'Cant' you hear my heart beat' by Hermans Hermits on the 'Other Music thread...

The Goldie version of Goin Back was played on Sounds of The Sixties
on Radio 2 a few years ago. No Gingerbreads were involved - just
Goldie. It was pulled because Goffin and King objected to the
change of words in this version.

Cheers Chris

I'm a Byrds fan,but I agree,their version of Goin' Back is nowhere near Dusty's.
Paul's spot on with the comment that their treatment is at odds with the lyrics.
They also covered "Wasn't Born To Follow" and similarly,Dusty's version shines supreme.
