Yeah, this film is timeless classic, and really a tragic storyline.  Incredible acting, too. I think this is one of the saddest movies about addiction, ever.

Yes, very sad indeed.
They did a very similar(But not as good) movie with Meg Ryan, a few years back.
I think it was called 'When A Man Loves A Woman'...nothing to do with Percy Sledge!..

Days of Wine and Roses is a very good film and the sad thing about it was that he introduced her to alcohol and then he managed to stop and she couldn't.
So well acted.
Nice theme song too by Henry Mancini

Okay, I admit to downing a few Magner's whilst I was in the UK last month...and a few Seagram's Hard Lemonades.
Sara - Back in the day (late 60s, early 70s) the cheap drinks we downed "on the sneak" were some cheap hip wines: "Boone's Farm" Apple Wine and Strawberry Hill, "Annie Greensprings" and "Bali Hai". Those were the days!

Yep, it was either cheap and cheerful, cider or shandy, when we first started going out on the town....
We DID 'progress' to Babycham, which was considered very sophisticated at that time...
Later it was Pernod which showed up like it was 'radium' under certain Disco lights..
You had to be 'nouveau riche' to buy that, and very In -Crowd...
I wasn't nouveau riche, but THOUGHT I was 'In Crowd'

I too can relate to cider, shandy and Babycham' with a cherry of course and the odd short when feeling flush after being paid for the Saturday job!
When I was a student I could only afford shandy--not like today when credit cards and loans are the order of the day!!

When I was a young gal we used to drink Cinzano and lemonade. Before a party we would drink half or more of a bottle of Cinzano and then fill it up with lemonade. When we arrived at the party we would then pop it on the drinks table and 'exchange' it for something else. Most times we were fine with this but occasionally we were caught out because some other buggers had done the same thing!!

I don't drink!!......LOL only joking!
I'm not keen on 'Pub pints' of Bitter, Mild, Lager, I'm more of a red Vino person, though in moderation, never more than 3 glasses, occasionally I'll have a spirit before Dinner, and a Bailey's or Tia Maria after just at the weekend.....most of the time them there bottles is a gathering dust!
