OK - for all you REAL soul fans out there, a new cd is issued today on Kent Records (CDKEND278) featuring someone you will never heard of!
The artist(s) in question are BARBARA & THE BROWNS..actually BARBARA BROWN and various backing singers (all of which were her sisters - she had 9!!)

Barbara Brown is truly an 'undiscovered gem' of an artist with such a strong soulful voice - as good as Carla Thomas or Mavis Staples.
She too came from Memphis, and this cd 'oozes' the 'Memphis sound' throughout. The tracks range from 1964 - 1971 - every one is fabulous - especially the lead track 'Can't find happiness', one of the most gut-wrenching slabs of soul you'll EVER hear.
I've said it before (many times!)..but if you like REAL soul - this one is not to be missed

Have you heard all the tracks on the CD yet Brian?
I've only heard one song by Barbara &The Browns- called "I don't Want To Have To Wait" - it was on one of the Dave Godin "Deep Soul" CD's, and it's very impressive.
I'll wait for your verdict before I purchase the cd

Paul - that is track 4, and it's one of the weakest tracks on the cd!!! Shows what the rest are like! When I say it's one of the 'weakest' - it's STILL better than 95% of what passes for soul nowadays Purchase forthwith - if not sooner

Brian.
