Have you ever really enjoyed a book which is then translated into a film/movie experience?
Was the film better or worse than the book, or just completely different?
I know someone who told me that 'Captain Corellis Mandolin' was one of the very best books he ever read....Dashed to see the film of the book and came away from the Cinema, bitterly disappointed.
In fact, I think it spoiled the memory of the book for him.I think it is because in your own imagination, you see the people/situations completely differently.
Anyway, you get the gist?
Have you got any examples ?

Interesting topic,Carole.
Unfortunately,I have more examples of being disappointed by a film, after reading the book.
The Prince of Tides - Oh dear,Janie will be peeved but Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte really struggled with this one.
The Shipping News - Loved the book by E.Annie Proulx, but despite a great cast in the film (Kevin Spacey,Cate Blanchett,Judi Dench) it never fulfilled my expectations.
The only film I can think of off hand,as being as good as the book, was The Silence Of The Lambs... wonderful Oscar-winning performances by Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, who revelled in the role of Hannibal Lecter.

i COMPLETELY agree with Carole's thoughts on Captain Corell, the movie that is. the book was beautifully written and was spell-bounding. evidently you have much more patience than me. I watched the opening credits and less than five minutes into nicholas cage's dialogue/scene i turned it off. i thought he was completely wrong for the part.

I agree about The Shining. My imagination can scare me a whole lot better than the movie.
I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Thought they were very well done.
"Sophie's Choice" - I loved the book and the movie.

Rubbish - its not her fault he had trouble with his shrimps , or is it inappropriate for her character to have such a large nose, do you think? I think I shall watch it again tomorrow. Thanks for 'reminding' me that I have this brilliant film in my collection, Marg

A Simple Plan, the film was good but the book was brilliant.

Sarah Waters' "Tipping the Velvet" and "Fingersmith"- preferred the books but the films weren't bad either!

"To kill a mockingbird" great film but not as good as the book.
I've just started reading "The devil wears prada." Still haven't seen the film though.
