Just got back from the weekend of 'fun', feeling as free as a bird and more relaxed than Val Doonican. I tried most of the events on offer and especially enjoyed the 'detox with Doris' and the bar-b-cue. The onions were out of this world. The visit to the hospital was interesting and informative - so many people gasping for breath..ah, ah, ah, ah it was almost like a Bee Gees concert This was followed by the highlight of the weekend - a visit to Asda and many bargains. I am rather worried about Pen though. She was last seen running hell for leather towards the Chiltern Hills singing 'The hills are alive with the sound of music' (they weren't!). It is a memory I shall keep for a long time - seeing lycra stretch like that made you realise just how far man has come since the days of the cotton mill. Rumour has it - although it's not confirmed - one of our party won a cup at golf, but missed out on the saucer by one hole. I hope you've all got home safely, and feel much better for the 'experience' Next outing will be much more sedate and easy going.

Well I dropped my cup getting off the bus. I'm feeling about 110 tonight after all those exertions--I need a very lazy trip next time.
Pen would appear to be missing I think she must have got stuck half way down a rabbit hole taking the bunny race far too seriously. She ate at least 2lbs of carrots before the race too.

Being the dynamic organiser that I am I've booked us on 'The Sloe Boat To China'. What is this?...I hear you say....well, it's a narrow boat that plies between Stoke-on-Trent and Eutoria on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday finishing up at the Wedgewood factory (hence China!). You can drink as much as you like during the 45 minute trip and the price is inclusive. Gin is very popular on this motor vessel- the barge called "Mothers Ruin" has operated since 1931 and has appeared in many a magazine and black & white films. Please concregate on the Gasworks Jetty in Stoke ready for the 1.15pm departure next Saturday. The trip IS a return, so after a quick look around the factory we should be back in Stoke by 4.

The boat trip wasn't the success it should have been Stoke-on-Trent on a Saturday afternoon is not like the Panama Canal. We 'viewed' the back of the gasworks, several industrial estates, the delivery entrance to the shopping centre and a couple of slagheaps. At Eutoria we had a quick look round the pottery warehouse, but apart from 2,600 Prince William mugs - there wasn't much on offer. A member complained there wasn't any cherries to put into her gin & gripewater cocktail (this IS S-O-T, NOT Cannes! - live with it), and another moaned she was pinched on the b*m by one of the crew - but only ONCE! The day was not wasted however, because when we got back to Stoke we popped into Primark and got lots of stuff for our summer holidays, including swimsuits to fit the more mature body and some elasticated thongs which the assistant ('Trace') said were 'bi-sexual', which we presume fit both men and women? We drifted off home - a bit deflated. Never mind - the next trip will be a bit 'SPECIAL'

Pots, pots, pots-thats all we saw on our trip down the cut.
The booze was not existant unless you count watered down beer served from defunct Kate and William mugs.
I just hope this next trip IS something special Tootle.

Well, I don't know about the other two(A right pair of wet blankets if ever there were some) but I quite enjoyed the Potteries.
Being quite potty myself I enjoyed picking out some 'seconds' crockery to fling at my wall whenever I'm feeling frustrated or bored...which I am most of the time these days.
I also enjoyed PRIMARK, even though we were queuing for over four hours, it was worth it.
I did save at least two pounds fifteen pence on a candlewick dressing gown, which I've put away until we have the 'deep freeze' promised in August...
Something Special looms, I can feel it in my waters.

*STOP PRESS*
Saturday is the Eurovision Song Contest, and I have secured three tickets for the event in Norway. Obviously I will have one, so it's 'first come, first served' for the other two. (there will be a big demand!), so get your name forward asap. We leave from an undisclosed airstrip in Cambridgeshire at 8am on Saturday morning for a four hour flight to an undisclosed airstrip in Norway. There will be 'in flight' entertainment in the shape of 'SOTS' via BBC Radio 2, and the flight will include a meal of an undisclosed fish dish. The seats for the show are all together just below Terry Wogan's box - to the left of Ken Bruce. If anyone can remember the name of our entry you can cheer for that Saturday evening we will stay in an undisclosed hotel near the venue which will include an undisclosed late night meal with gin or Tango blackcurrant. After breakfast on Sunday (sorry, but I cannot tell you what it is, as it says in the brochure 'undisclosed'), we will make our way back to the airstrip in a Ffjord Anglia for the flight home. We actually land at Filey Airfield (disclosed) in Yorkshire, so if your being collected tell them to be there at around 4.30pm. You must realise this is a 'one off - trip of a lifetime' so the cost will reflect this....it's £89.46 or £89.76 if you want to sit next to the toilet (please specify) on the plane. The cost includes all meals and transfers, but not Union Jacks. On the way home there will be a 'Eurovision quiz', and I can tell you that the first answer is 'Sandie Shaw - 1967'..so you've got a headstart. Please reply with fee asap.

I've just been informed by the airline we will be FLYING to FINLAND, not NORWAY. They read their map wrong (The airstrip is still 'undisclosed' - but it's near Helsinki, so thats good)

One ticket is still up for grabs. Is it the cost that's putting you off? If your a bit 'brassic' at the moment, or perhaps on State handouts there is an easy payment plan. Please e-mail me for details. Possibly you are put off by the fish dish on Saturday night?...well all I can tell you only two people in the last ten years have died in Finland that is 'fish related'...and one of them died in a supermarket freezer. I wish Lulu was going to be there.

There has been no interest in the other ticket Trek, but we may get a last minute 'surge' who knows? I think it's because Finland is cold, and people have summer clothes on. I can get a 80% refund on unused tickets, but if that turns out to be the case, you'll owe me £15! LISTEN - YOU LOT.....it's time for

I've just had a 'surge' Toots!...(Don't let on, everyone'll want one!)
I wanna come to Finland, Not to see Skoot or whatever their name is, but with some luck we may just bump into our mate Kat...
The odds on 'flying the flag' (OUR song) have shortened to 12/10 which means you got to put £12 on to win £10....does that sound right?.....and THATS on them scoring nil Points!....
I wouldn't want to be Defeatist, but I predict an even more embarassing score than last year...
My money is on The Transvestite from the Ukraine, walking away with the honours...
So, yes Toots, me, you, Trek and Terry Wogan are in for an 'interesting night.'
Are we flying through Finn Air?..
See ya ! Don't forget your flag!..and clean undies.

Pen just got in under the wire. If she'd have left it another 5 minutes three requests came in. Any airpath up...she was lucky this time. Now for a few more details:- Make your way to Meldreth airstrip for the 8am departure tomorrow morning. We will be flying with 'SVEN KRANKED UP AIRWAYS' in a 6 seater bi plane. I'm not sure if this means they don't know if they are taking off or landing, but the good news is they have never had a mishap in the air during their 68 years of flying. They did have a problem in a hanger once, but it was kept quiet. We land in Isongomerflokerfeka just 4 miles from Helsinki at 12.10, and there will be a taxi waiting to take us to our hotel. The afternoon will be free to explore the city, then we meet at 6pm for a short cycle ride to the venue. The tension will be mounting by this time, so please remember you are British and don't get phased by such important events. Keep your cool.

I hope I'm sitting next to Sir Terry, I love abit of blarny.
I'm bringing some banners with "I'll give it 5" painted on for us to hold up in the theatre--just to get everyone "in the mood"
Just gonna finish my packing--do you think its worth bringing a set of clubs --just in case Terry fancies a game?

Well, we took off on time, and right now are having breakfast on board. It's only toast and marmalade, but the toast is carved into figures of minor celebrities from Finland which makes it all so interesting. As it's a very small plane we do not have an 'in flight movie', but our hostess Ingrid, is kindly showing us slides from her holiday in 1966. Ingrid is a 'more mature' hostess There was some turbulance as we flew over Holland, but it turned out to be Pen flushing the toilet with a heavy hand. We now have music!...piped around the plane ..it's 'Y VIVA ESPANIA' by Sylvia, and although it's not a Eurovision song ...it's setting the mood

The faces of the trolley dollies do look rather familiar,
OMG!...Its only the Members of Skootch!...
They obviously KNOW, that they haven't got a snowballs chance in hell of winning this Contest!..
Well, if they aint got no faith in themselves, What are we doing, here?..I'm beginning to fear the worst.
Have you heard the Serbian Entry..?
Its quite good, and I've had a tenner on it to win.
Oh they've put on some music..

What a wonderful evening! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially Trek who got invited up into Terry Wogan's box. Pen and myself were left to 'wave the flag'..mine was the Hungarian one - Pen's was a green one which used to wave off Thomas the tank engine. We pretended not to be British. Off to the party now...
