Looking at that vid, I'd say that Joss Stone models herself on Janis Joplin.
Its all abit OTT for my taste, but each to their own...

I just watched the clip of Janis and thought she was great, I recently bought her hits cd so must play it again.
Carole compared to the way some singers sing now I didn't think Janis was OTT at all, infact by today's standards she's probably rather tame! But I understand your point of view. |

I think with Janis you either "get" her or you don't. It's true she doesn't make for very easy listening, but that's because she literally wrenched her soul out in every performance and some people find it uncomfortable to hear that - there was never any subtlety or hidden emotions with her. She was honest, stripped down and laid bare. That's what made her such a unique talent, but it's also the very thing that turns some people off her.
She'll always be my number one female singer... our Dust comes a close second though!  |
