Does anyone know if all songs of that list by Carole were published on LP, Single, MC or CD or if some of them are rare bootlegs?
[quote][i]Originally posted by Alex Forhermusic P.S. 'Reflections', by Diana Ross & The Supremes (1967) was the first single, or at least the first British No.1, to use a synthesiser . Check out the space-age intro...
Do you mean the version of the Supremes or the version of Dusty herself?

Most of the songs on Carole's list were songs Dusty performed on tv shows and were never recorded in a studio. |

Hi Sgt Pepper, thanks for the kind words. Yes, Carole, as always, is spot on. The Supremes version has the synth. I wonder how Dusty arranged her version? Sadly, as Reputation points out, Dusty didn't, I think, fully exploit her ability to put a new spin (no pun meant, honest!) on already brilliant songs by recording a tribute ALBUM. (Why not; anybody??) To me 60s Tamla Motown produced more than pop songs - some of them, anyway, were artistic statements of feeling from a racial / ethnic group only just emerging from centuries of abysmal treatment and neglect. All exacted the highest standards of performing and some artists have said, in interview, they were taken to the point of straining their vocal chords to meet production demands.
Detroit and, e.g. Stax, 'soul' music possessed the original 'X Factor'!
Check out the available Dusty dvds for preserved Motown songs:
The READY STEADY GO! performance of 'Can I Get A Witness' is on 'Dusty Springfield - People Get Ready', Delta Entertainment, Germany, 2006.
'The Real Thing' Dusty sings twice on the BBC TV dvd, on 1/9/66 & 8/9/66. Ashford and Simpson wrote it and the were Motown artists.
'Get Ready', by Smokey Robinson, is there to, on 22/8/67.
'Heat Wave' is on the 12/9/67 episode.
and 'Nowhere To Run' sensationally open her last programme of that series, 19/9/67 (my brother was 6 that day!).
Hope that's a help. At Christmas I am due to receive as a gift, the Ready Steady Go! dvds available from America. There are 2 discs of rarities and never broadcast stuff, maybe there'll be more to share then. Good searching!

Go to www.thevideobeat.com/store and relish all the 50s and 60s stuff available. Apparently they sohould play on US or Japanese-made equipment. They are US format, but they say that most dvd players nowadays play all formats anyway. But check first. I made a mistake earlier - the rarities are on only one disc. Vol 1 is 1964, Vol 2 + 3 are 1965. 1966 wasn't mentioned (so no 'Little By Little'...). Not cheap, but mine are here - I'm told - but I'm not getting near them til December 25th!

Alex the videobeat dvd's are excellent I ordered and received some a few years ago during a trip to the States, one of the dvd's I have has a Dusty performance from the NME Poll Winners concert.
When you spoke of them I thought they had been released commercially, forgot about videobeat temporarily. |
