"Well it's too late baby, yeah, it's too late..." I love that song, she wrote some amazing songs, and I like her voice, it's unusual
I remember when I first heard "It Might As Well Rain Until September" on a 60's compilation album, I think it was, in my teens, and I loved that song! And that CD. I wish Dusty'd been on it, cos then I might've discovered her sooner, it's so unfair!

I'm fascinated by all the (mainly Jewish) husband-wife song writers of the early 60s Tin Pan Alley - Goffin-King, Ellie Greenwich-Jeff Barry, Cynthia Weill-Barry Mann, Lieber-Stoller - well, the latter not married.

They wrote ALL the songs of the early 60s, until the Beatles came along, wrote their own songs and made Tin Pan Alley redundant.

The Beatles did record a Carole King song...

Carole King is an artist with REAL talent. Looking back at her output with Gerry Goffin, the solo writings and wonderful recordings from 'It might as well rain until September' (the PERFECT pop song), to the fabulous 'It's too late'...there is just one word - FAB!

The Beatles did record a Carole King song...

Now, FN... I'm driving myself mad, trying to remember which it was.

Anyone?

Does anyone remember a very old Carole King record called The Road To Nowhere? It was before It Might As Well Rain Until Septemger.

It received a lot of airplay but did not seem to do much in the charts, if anything. I never did buy it but I liked it at the time, at that age I didn't have much money for records so had to be very selective.

It's "Chains"! I only know though cos I've got the original version by the Cookies on a girl groups compilation CD. I listened to it recently and thought "didn't the Beatles record that?"

The crackles on my copy of "You've Got A Friend" are almost as good as those on the title sequence from Dusty's 1966 shows

Gerry is still alive and well, and living in L A. Still writing and producing, although nothing on the scale of his younger days. He 'co-wrote' 'So sad the song' with Michael Masser for Gladys Knight...but it was in 1974! He also was involved with Kelly Clarkson in the early stages of her career. I would guess he's well into his sixties (in years)...just like we were into his sixties (music!)

I didn't know about him co/writing 'So Sad The Song' Brian.

That is one of the most beautiful songs ever!...

If you don't know it folks, please give it a listen, you will not regret it.

I've named my three, but I really want to give a shout out to "Song of Long Ago" off Music. I love that song. Also "It's Going To Take Some Time" which the Carpenters covered. I think Music is an underrated album.

' So Far Away'

That is one gorgeous song, Tere.

It's on her 'Love Makes The World Go Round ' album.

I'm gonna find it on the magical Youtube.
