Am saving the red wine! Was struck (again) by 'Who Can I Turn To?', followed of course by 'Doodlin' and 'If It Don't Work Out'. 'That's How Heartaches Are Made', also from 'Everything's Coming Up Dusty', is another heartfelt masterpiece... and now she's an illustration for The Long Blondes... Dusty (sigh).

I am at work, on the late shift tonite. Snuck in here to check the site before we closed up for the night and "I'll Try Anything" started playing on our music system!
Hi there, Dusty!

Apropos of my last reply on this thread, today I was sorting a box of old stuff, at home, and found a free cd from the excellent MOJO music magazine. It included Chris Farlowe's version of 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself', which got played to and from Sainsbury's! It is good in itself. Dusty's version rules, of course . Then on return home I checked a web site and saw he had recorded 'Who Can I Turn To?' as well. Then read the sleeve notes to 'Everything's Comin Up Dusty', and saw Tony Bennet had done it too...which prompted me to look across at the Essential TB cd, on my shelf, and bingo!, disc2, track1, 'Who Can I Turn To?' . What a day, AND Katy got through this eveneing on BBC1...

Talking about Chris Farlowe... His major hit was 'Out Of Time'which I think was written by Jagger/Richards.
He also recorded the original 'Handbags and Gladrags' as far as I can remember.
I did not know he'd recorded IJDKWTDWM.
I also like Tony Bennetts 'Who Can I Turn To?' and 'Second Time Around'
So, now we got all that outta the way...
Lets get back to Dusty Song Sightings.

Carole I have compiled cd's of other artists singing songs we know by Dusty. There are several versions of IJDKWTDWM, the previously mentioned Chris Farlowe but Gary Puckett ("Young Girl" From The Union Gap) recorded a good version but quite recently Steve Tyrell also recorded the song, his cd's are great, he wrote one of the songs on Dusty's Reputation & Rarities incase people aren't aware of that. y |

This morning SIR Terry Wogan played DUFFY's single and said in a gentle tone, 'I read somewhere she is [regarded as] the new Dusty Springfield'. A good man is he! She has a very listenable style: no comparisons needed, as there will always be only one winner , however, Duffy, in her own right, has a good-sounding song, which, when Jeremy Vine played it, later on , he spoke with a suggestion of pleasant surprise in his intonation .
Sorry Carol ; I'm a bit off topic again, but 'listened again' to Warten Und Hoffen on Radio 2. Like Paul Howes says, the song doesn't seem suited to the German language -- seems to lack the 'bounce' of the English metre -- but still very polished vocal.

From ECUD the Rod Argent song, If It Don't Work Out on SOTS.
The chap that requested it asked for something that isn't played very often--what a good idea-- it was nice to hear this track on the radio.

I bought a CD yesterday titled "The Love Songs of Burt Bacharach". The songs are performed by some primo vocalists, but Dusty is the only one on there twice - with 'IJDKWTDWM' and 'Wishin' & Hopin''. Terrific collection.
"The Look of Love", btw, is the Brazilian-ized version by Sergio Mendes & Brazil 66.

Eastenders (BBC TV soap) Omnibus....playing 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' in the laundrette! (Must be on the laundrette's radio. Can't see Dot being able to cope with a music system as well as the tumble dryers ).

I have that CD too. Dusty is the only recording artist that appears twice on that compilation.

Right now Terry Wogan is playing WHIDTDT. A couple of nights ago Mark Lamar had the BBC Sessions as his 'essential listening album', and played 'I can't hear you' and 'Little by little' back-to-back. Terry has just said 'Pet Shop Boys and the WONDERFUL Dusty Springfield'! say 'yeah!!'
