Hi Carole,
Odly enough I was listening to THE NEXT TIME by Cliff Richard last week and I looked to see who had wrote the song - it was Buddy Kaye who co wrote ALL CRIED OUT as well as LITTLE BY LITTLE and MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. Went to a DLT Roadshow back in the Seventies - he was one of the best of the bunch back then
Cheers Chris |

Thanks for that Info' Chris..
I haven't heard of Buddy Kaye before, but it looks like he had some strong Dusty Connections!...
As for DLT ...I wonder if he still has the beard?... Didn't he call himself 'The Hairy Cornflake' or something?

When living in Germany (2002-04) I remember a cable TV channel used to re-run the old black and white pop music programme, in vivid video tape, no scratches or fuzz, of top 60s bands, hosted by DLT. He read his lines in German from hand-held que cards. I don't recall Dusty on there, but she probably was...
On BBC Radio 1, here, he was on the Breakfast Show for a while (before Mike Read took it over?) and got that name then. Snooker on the radio, in 1982...it was sloping downhill at that point... (Smashie and Nicey) Alex |

How does Steve Wright keep his job?
He must have been on Radio 2 for thirty years at least.
Why?

Little double-header today: Middle of Nowhere, "The incomparable Dusty Springfield", on Terry Wogan (Radio 2), and IOWTBWY on local radio in afternoon in Surrey.
Steve Wright's weekday show is one of R2's most popular, and the Sunday one is also well-listened to. His style is to keep the flow going fast, maintaining a high tempo, with the music sometimes subordinate to the speech content. On the occasions I hear his oldies section, on weekdays, he sometimes allows quite unusual selections for mid afternoon, and doesn't talk over those. His style and content irritate me, sometimes, but he has to be credited with many innovative ideas and some great interviews - such as with Tony Bennett, which made me listen, and become a fan of TB's. There you go.

I don't know if I would love to hear a 20 minute version of SOAPM... But I wouldn't mind if it was Chained to a Memorie...
Btw - thank you for the Dusty photograph Frans - was a nice surprice to see it in the homepage e-mail inbox... ;-)

I only saw the first 5 minutes of last night's show, but yet again Dusty appeared on the soundtrack of "Heartbeat"!!! This is the 3rd week in a row!!!
Oddly enough it was I'll Try Anything again.... and again at a very low level - perhaps it was a test of the viewer's Dusty "fan-ivity factor" (I think I made up that term! )

Terry W played IOWTBWY this morning adding 'OOH DUSTEEE' This record still sounds as FRESH as it did in 1963!

IOWTBWY again on the radio this morning...Steve Wright - followed by Reach out, I'll be there by The Four Tops!...has he had a brainstorm?..is he finally turning into a 'proper DJ'?
Brian.
P.S IS IOWTBWY the MOST PLAYED 'oldie' on UK radio?....I think it could be...it's that or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. |

Thats a nice thought Brian... I wonder which is the most played track say on Radio2 over the past few years.
IOWTBWY must come near the top of the list..

I spent most of the last 5 days at the sports arena here, watching the early rounds of the College Women's Basketball National Championship tournament. (Our University of Connecticut 'Huskies' are the #1 ranked team in the nation this year.)
Listening to the bands from the eight universities involved in the tourney, I noticed that when not playing their schools' 'fight songs', ALL the bands were playing mostly pop/soul songs from the 60s and 70s - songs that were first popular years before the bandmembers were born!
Well, last night, to my surprise and delight, the band from the University of Louisville (Kentucky) played "I Only Want To Be With You"!! How cool is that?!

That's ace! Is it for work or are you on holiday? RE: Steve Wright, he plays some great music and everything, but why oh why does he have to shout when I've just woken up? It's really really annoying!
